Day 1 – Arrive Anchorage, gateway to Alaska Tour begins: 6:00 PM at Sheraton Anchorage Hotel & Spa. Upon arrival, a transfer is included from Anchorage International Airport to the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel & Spa in the heart of the city. Your Alaskan adventure kicks off with a welcome dinner at your hotel. Meals D Day 2 – Explore the wilderness by jet boat Venture north for two exciting outdoor adventures today. First, it’s all aboard the most technologically advanced river jet boat* in Alaska – specially designed to navigate once-inaccessible mountain rivers – for a ride into the heart of the wilderness. Your local naturalist guide will help you spot bald eagles, beavers, moose and even bears along your river route. Then put on your hiking shoes as you explore the backwoods of bush Alaska. Visit a fur trapper’s cabin to see firsthand how these hardy outdoorsmen lived and worked in this challenging environment at the turn of the 20th century, and try to imagine yourself in their shoes – including those web-footed snowshoes, a must for winter survival! Continue on to your Alaskan lodge, a true wilderness retreat with a host of recreational activities for families of every age. Meals BLD Day 3 – Meet Alaskan Huskies and a “musher” Dog sledding is popular as both a sport and a practical form of transportation in Alaska’s interior; the Alaskan Huskies that pull the sleds in frigid weather have become beloved living symbols of the state, in part because of Alaska’s world-famous annual dog sled race, the Iditarod. Today, meet an Iditarod “musher” and future sled dogs on a visit to a summer training facility, where you’ll see how these amazing dogs are trained, taught voice commands and fed along the race trail, and learn how to harness and hitch up a dog. The remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy as you wish. Meals B Day 4 – Flightsee near Mount McKinley Weather permitting, get set for a breathtaking flightseeing journey over the foothills of Denali National Park en route to the Kenai Peninsula, for a chance to view the ice-clad summit of Mt. McKinley. Back on land, head to the Kenai Peninsula, often called “Alaska’s playground.” Spend the next two nights at Seward Windsong Lodge in Seward or Kenai Princess Wilderness Lodge in Cooper Landing. Meals BD Day 5 – Discover the Kenai Peninsula The beautiful Kenai Peninsula extends from the Alaskan mainland between Cook Inlet and the Gulf of Alaska, offering endless opportunities for outdoor fun. You will have a choice of included activities today that invite you to explore the region your way! Choose from a kayaking adventure*, a scenic river-rafting trip* or a guided wilderness hike. Optional fishing excursions are available on a limited basis at an additional cost; river fishing is available to guests staying at Cooper Landing, while those guests staying in Seward can engage in open-water fishing. Ask at booking. Meals BLD Day 6 – Alaska SeaLife Center / Kenai Fjords cruise An exclusive program for Tauck Bridges families awaits this morning on a visit to Seward’s Alaska SeaLife Center, dedicated to Alaska’s incredibly diverse marine life from king crabs to the giant Pacific octopus. Watch diving puffins and a gliding, one-ton Steller seal through underwater viewing windows or a harbor seal resting on a rocky beach, all in carefully built naturalistic habitats. Look for a wide variety of wildlife and marine mammals in their natural habitats on a cruise through the Kenai Fjords coastal region with an on-board naturalist. Your destination tonight is the Alyeska Resort, a popular ski resort in winter, a flower-filled wonderland in summer. Meals BD Day 7 – Natural treasures of the Alaskan coast Visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center on the shores of Turnagain Arm this morning. See orphaned animals that are being rehabilitated here, from moose and musk ox to bald eagles and grizzly bears. At the turn of the 20th century, gold miners flocked to this area in search of untold riches; meet a prospector, pan for gold and have lunch at the Crow Creek Mine before taking a guided hike and whitewater rafting trip* or a cruise to view Portage Glacier. Share memories – and addresses – at our farewell dinner tonight. Meals BLD Day 8 – Journey home Tour ends: Anchorage, Alaska. Fly home anytime. A transfer from Hotel Alyeska to Anchorage International Airport is included. Allow a minimum of 2 hours for flight check-in. Meals B |
