Day 1 - Panama City

Check-in to your luxurious hotel, the InterContinental Miramar, a contemporary high-rise landmark with a privileged location on Panama Bay.

Day 2 - Panama City & Canal Locks

Your sightseeing begins at the Miraflores Locks. See ships transiting the Panama Canal, as your guide shares history and insight into the “8th Wonder of the World.” Discover the fascinating contrasts of Panama City, starting with The Causeway, a modern shopping and dining district with views of the city’s skyscrapers. Cross the bay into Casco Antiguo, the oldest area of the city dating to 1673, a charming district of cobblestone streets and colonial architecture. Meals B

Day 3 - Panama Canal Transit to Gamboa Rainforest Resort

An unforgettable day unfolds as you journey from the Pacific to the Atlantic on a full Canal transit across the Panamanian Isthmus. Board your vessel and journey up the Miraflores Locks, the first of the Canal’s three sets of locks. Cruise through the famous Gaillard Cut, a nine-mile excavation through Panama’s backbone into Gatun Lake. Upon arrival in Cristobal, it’s a scenic drive to the luxurious Gamboa Rainforest Resort, located on the Chagres River and surrounded by the lush rainforest flora and exotic fauna of the Soberania National Park. Day 4 - Gamboa Rainforest Resort

You have a full day at leisure to enjoy the fabulous amenities of your tropical resort. Relax poolside or join some of the available activities, from birdwatching and naturalist-guided wildlife-viewing tours to fishing on Lake Gatun and boat excursions on the Chagres River. Meals B

Day 5 - Gamboa / Portobelo / Panama Rail / Playa Bonita

Explore the town of Portobelo, a quiet Caribbean community with a rich history. Discover the ruins of Colonial-era fortifications – cannons still intact and pointed toward the now-peaceful bay they once protected here along the infamous Spanish Main. Visit the 17th century Custom House and see the amazing Christo Negro statue, which appeared mysteriously in Portobelo in the mid 1600’s. Enjoy a seafood lunch, Caribbean style and an Afro-Caribbean presentation and dance by Congos, descendents of former slaves brought to Panama by Spanish Conquistadors.

In the late afternoon, transfer to the Atlantic Passenger Station in Colon for a transcontinental trip on the historic Panama Railroad, originally built in 1855. This journey from the Atlantic to the Pacific follows alongside the Canal, through tropical rainforest with unparalleled views of the Canal and ship traffic. Upon arrival at Panama Station, it’s a pleasant drive to the beautiful InterContinental Playa Bonita Resort and Spa, set on a private beach overlooking the Pacific entrance to the Canal. Meals B,L

Day 6 - Playa Bonita

Two full days to spend as you please. Enjoy the pools and sports activities of your resort, take a nature walk in the adjacent Punta Bruja Nature Reserve, or join an available excursion – like golf, deep sea fishing or bird watching. Meals B

Day 7 - Playa Bonita

This deluxe rainforest resort is nestled amongst the dense jungle of the rainforest outside Panama City and directly alongside the scenic Chagres River and Gatun Lake. The resort prides itself on its collaboration with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute, and as such offers a variety of displays, tours, and programs designed to educate visitors on the beauty and significance of the flora and fauna which surround the resort.
