Review: Andean Highlands and Galápagos Islands with Adventures by Disney

By Lucy Fernandez, Owner

Visiting the natural wonderland of the Galápagos Islands with your family is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Add in a unique hotel stay in Ecuador’s mountain region, remarkable sites in Quito and a dash of that famous Disney magic, and you have an out-of-this-world vacation to share with your kids. Indeed, Adventures by Disney provides a hassle-free trip that will knock the socks off children and amaze even the most seasoned adult travelers.

My husband and I sampled the Adventures by Disney Andean Highlands and Galápagos Islands itinerary late last year. It was amazing how much ground we covered on the 9-day cruisetour, though we never felt rushed through our sightseeing days.

The vacation began in Quito, Ecuador, where we visited such famous sites as the giant sundial that sits right on the equator. For two nights we stayed at a centuries-old hacienda in the highlands —at 8,500 feet above sea level! Here we admired the gorgeous countryside, indulged in traditional Ecuadorian cuisine and enjoyed an authentic folkloric show. While at the hacienda hotel in the highlands, kids on this trip get their own “Disney Movie Night” so adults can mingle and enjoy a child-free evening. Everybody is happy!

All of the “Adventurers” on our trip couldn’t wait to board the ship to cruise the Galápagos. The islands provided a spectacular wildlife-viewing experience. The turtles, birds and reptiles barely gave us a glance when we passed by them as they perched on rocks or in the water, allowing us to take some incredible photos of the animals that make their homes in this pristine environment.

Stargazing, snorkeling and even karaoke were some of the activities offered during our cruise of the Galápagos Islands. Even the kids—the “Junior Adventurers”—enjoy their own special events, such as a pizza-making party. With two tour directors—“Adventure Guides”—accompanying all Adventures by Disney trips, each age group is kept happy and entertained by a friendly, expert guide.

I highly recommend this South America itinerary—or any Adventures by Disney vacation—for families who seek adventure, appreciate learning about the culture and history of a destination, and who enjoy the stress-free nature of an escorted tour. For families, you can’t beat the expert guides and top-notch experiences provided by Adventures by Disney.
