Recently I decided to fulfill one of my travel goals which was to actually take a vacation. A real vacation—not one of those where, you’re so exhausted, you need a vacation from your travels. No. I wanted a real getaway trip, but a trip that included tons of sightseeing excursions as well as included meals, plus a guide that would take care of all of the nuances and details along the way. That’s when I decided to go for an At Leisure escorted tour to Hawaii. Part 2: Prague and Avalon Waterways Legendary Danube River Cruise

Our next day in Vienna was more rewarding with a nice included tour of the famous city center, including famous St. Stephens Cathedral.  Before we left home we had booked tickets for the Spanish Riding School.  The famous Lipizzaner stallions and their skilled riders have performed their precision maneuvers and leaps for over 400 years.  The horses themselves originated from a breed in Spain and it takes both the stallions and their riders over 6 years of training before they are ready to perform in public  This event was definitely worth our $75 ticket!

Part 1: Prague and Avalon Waterways Legendary Danube River Cruise

Prague, the Czech Republic:  stop what you’re doing and make plans to go there NOW!  I’ve been traveling to Europe for 30+ years, and have visited most of the capital cities more than once.  Nothing in my past travel  experience prepared me for the wonder of Prague.  This is an absolutely magnificent city, top to bottom, start to finish.

Few people know that Prague was the seat of the Holy Roman Empire in the 14th century, when her leader Charles IV ushered in a Golden Age for his Czech subjects, with magnificent building projects (including the most famous landmark in Prague, the Charles Bridge) and the founding of Charles University, the first university in central Europe.  Bohemia flourished during this period, and Prague subsequently became known as the “golden city of spires.”
