I recently traveled with Avalon Waterways (a Globus family brand) on their Capitals of Central Europe itinerary. It was a beautiful 10 day trip from Prague to Budapest on the suite ship, the Avalon Panorama. The Avalon Panorama is pretty much a mobile 5 star hotel. In fact, it’s better than a 5 star hotel because with Avalon, you get to wake up in a new city every morning. From the wall-to-wall open air windows, classy modern decor, and full bathroom, you’ll find it’s hard to leave when your trip is over.
As you would expect with Avalon, from start to finish, everything was perfect. The service level and service quality was consistently high on a daily basis. I have to give the staff a tremendous amount of credit for their work while we were onboard. The enthusiasm was always there, the smiles, the willingness to help; they were perfect. The Tour Director was a wonderful leader and planned our days flawlessly. He allowed us to maximize our time by providing plenty of options and sightseeing with the perfect mixture of downtime. He was knowledgable and helped answer all of the guest’s questions. Let’s not forget our chef, producing local cuisines daily for us. The food tasted fresh and always different depending on where we were. What else can you ask for when you’re enjoying an upscale luxury dinner with the complimentary wine (or beer) flowing and you’re sailing the beautiful Danube river with panoramic views at your dinner table? That’s right, you can’t ask for much else.

For departure day, our Tour Director scheduled transfers for everyone who purchased air transfers. The departure schedule was straight forward. You leave your bags out at a certain time, you eat your last included breakfast of the trip, you get picked up and dropped off at the airport and you’re on your way!
Today is a bitter sweet day. On one hand you miss home and can’t wait to be back to your daily routine but on the other hand you’ve had such an amazing time, met so many amazing people and don’t want this all to end! Oh well, more reason to do it again next year!
