I recently cruised the coast of Croatia on the Dalmatian Elegance with Insight Vacations tour. The boat we sailed on, The Avangard, is a small deluxe yacht that only holds 36 guests. The ship includes areas such as dining room with a full bar and the large upper deck were you can take in the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. They also have a Jacuzzi on the top deck if you just would like to relax for a little while.

The ship does make several swim stops within the week so you can take a refreshing dip in the Adriatic Sea, this is done right off the back of the boat. Each modern cabin has individually controlled AC, en-suite bathrooms and safes. A full daily breakfast and a few other meals are included while on board. The staff is welcoming and were there to assist you in every way possible. This is a great way to travel to see some of the cities and towns along Croatia’s coast.

Croatia is a jewel, especially for small ship cruising. I have traveled the world and its waters from South Africa to Pacific. Nowhere is the water more enchanting, crystal clear and buoyant, but with a beautiful coastline and medieval fortified cities then Croatia. Perhaps that is part of the reason why the popular HBO television series “Game of Thrones” has done a lot of its filming in the Croatian port towns of Dubrovnik and Split. This was two stops along the way on the week long Croatia small ship cruise.

Each day began with an early morning sailing and breakfast on board. With daily ports along the Adriatic, such as Brac, Hvar, Korcula and Dubrovnik with walking tours of the cities that were included. If this was not enough we had stops along the way for the clients that wanted to swim in the Adriatic sea or maybe just spend time on one of the beautiful beaches. A dinghy would take the non-swimmers for a ride to shore if they wanted, but more often than not those cruisers were happy just relaxing on deck.

The food was great on board but I do suggest to try the local restaurants at the ports you stop. I had the best Pizza in Korcula at a small little place facing the ocean were we were able to enjoy the beautiful sunset from our outdoor seating. Dining in Croatia at a local restaurant adds extra dimension to these Croatian cruises.

If you start and end your tour in Split you must spend a couple of extra nights to explore the city and surrounding areas as this area has so much to explore. Needless to say this trip to Croatia well exceeded my expectations and I am glad that I choose a small ship to see this part of the world. From the Diocletian Palace in Split to the walled city in Dubrovnik and the crystal clear waters of the Adriatic sea you cannot go wrong with the Dalmatian Elegance with Insight Vacations small ship cruising.
