Holland America and Dancing with the Stars Return for 2014

Holland America managed to strike gold with a partnership that brought excitement and fun to its cruisegoers— as well as a little bit of the magic of television. And after the success of teaming up in 2013, they’re returning for another year. Read on to find out more about the new “season” of this TV show and cruise partnership.

Dancing with the Stars is ABC’s smash-hit reality competition series, based around the concept of real dance professionals teaching celebrities how to dance and learning a choreographed dance routine together, and competing against other dance partnerships for the judges and the viewing audience.

Dancing with the Stars is popular for a number of reasons: the beloved celebrities that compete, the enjoyment and art form of watching people dance at a highly skilled level, and the thought that the viewer at home could just as easily be participating. Well, Holland America is making that latter idea a reality for its cruise guests with Dancing with the Stars: At Sea.
DWTS: At Sea will allow vacationers to compete in a version of the reality show, where participants first compete in early elimination stages, before the best dancers move on to a final round dancing with stage professionals, and one winner is crowned Cruise Champion. For those of you who prefer less competitive vacations, don’t worry: The DWTS: At Sea showcase also includes complimentary dance classes based on dance routines from the television show for all the ship’s guests.

If you’re a fan of the show, this may be the closest chance you get to experiencing the real thing. If you’re not a fan of the show but still enjoy the art of dance, the competition can be a fun way to enjoy a vacation, whether by participating or spectating. The dance classes can also be a great way to learn something new and to simply partake in the singular pleasure that is dancing. If you’re vacationing with a loved one, learning to dance together is a great way to share in an activity that will keep the fires of a romantic relationship going.

And if you’re serious about competing, Holland America has five upcoming cruises with the DWTS: At Sea theme. The Cruise Champion from each voyage will go on to the complimentary seven-day Champions Cruise, where they will all compete for the right to be named Grand Champion of the DWTS: At Sea cruise season. The 2013 Champions Cruise, which set sail, January 12, featured a performance from Eric Hough from the Dancing with the Stars television show, as well as the Grand Champion final competition between the fifteen guest winners from each of Holland America’s participating ships.
