It’s important to be prepared, whether you’re teacher or student, first grader or in graduate school, or even if (especially if) you are a parent. AffordableTours.com has prepared a back-to-school guide for you so that you don’t miss out on any of the details. It can be easy to overlook a thing or two, but with our guide, you won’t fail.
The First Steps
Whether you’re a student or a parent of a student, the first step of preparation is pretty simple: Make sure you (or your child) are enrolled for the school year. In addition to that, you’ll want to find out what day classes start, and what time to arrive. (If you’re new to the school, you’ll probably need to know about the orientation period, as well.) Get any emergency contact paperwork filled out.
Medical Requirements
Of course, you’ll need to make sure you or your child has all the required immunizations. A student in grade school or high school may need to take a physical to ensure their fitness levels for certain activities. College students will want to make sure they have health insurance, either through the university or by another means.
In addition, notify the school of any health conditions or medications you or your child have or need to take.
School Supplies
Basic supplies will vary depending on what stage of schooling you or your child are in, but make sure you find out what is required and have it. If you’re in college, that means buying your textbooks. Don’t forget to buy any uniforms, gym clothes, or other required wear, and if there is no required wear, review the school’s dress code, if it has one. Obviously, a backpack or similar item to store supplies is a must.
School Itself
You’ll want to learn about the school as much as possible– the environment, the handbook, important contact information, and such. Find out the administrative hours of the school, and get a copy of the yearly calendar. If your child is in school, make sure you know the procedures for checking your child out early during the day or reporting any absences.
Eventually, you’ll want to meet the teachers— if you’re a parent, establishing a rapport with your child’s teacher can be the best way to track his or her progress and development, and will also help you understand what will be expected of your child in the classroom. As a college student, meeting your professor is both a smart way to establish what will be expected of you in the course, and may assist you in getting any help from the professor you need down the line.
