Melt In Your Mouth Belgian Waffle Recipe

From cheese to chocolate to fries and beer, waffles are in good company among all the delicacies that have come from Belgium.

Belgian waffles as we know them today, first made their appearance at the 1958 Brussels World fair in their home country. The chef dusted them with confectioners’ sugar and topped them with whipped cream and fresh fruit. A few years later, he brought them to America to sell at the World Fair. He began selling Belgian waffles at restaurants and the rest was history.

What makes Belgian waffles so distinct is that they are fluffier, have larger squares and have deeper waffle pockets. The fluffiness from the eggs and baking powder is better at holding more syrup, melted ice cream, fruit and whipped cream.
