Base Layers
Keeping in mind when packing for Antarctica, staying warm in cold weather is all about wearing layers! Inside the ship will be toasty, so you can pack regular attire for relaxing in the lounge or eating at one of the on board gourmet restaurants. When it’s exploration time, you’ll have to layer up. Between November and February temperatures can go up as high as the mid-50Fs, but usually average in the 30Fs.
For the clothing closest to your skin, merino wool is a great option that will keep you warm, will dry quickly, and won’t smell after multiple uses. Depending on how long your Antarctica cruise is, pack at least 2-4 base layers. Fleece is the best thing to wear as your mid layer. Pack one thick fleece and one thinner fleece to give yourself more options inside and outside the ship.
