Review: Elegance of the East Coast with Insight Vacations

Elegance of the East Coast With Insight Vacations

By: Marisa Hayden, Certified Travel Associate

My son and I recently traveled with Insight Vacations on the Elegance of the East Coast itinerary.  This was my second trip with Insight and it was everything that I expected, and more!

We arrived at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City for the start of our tour experience.  As we walked into the doors of this historic hotel, we were met by Howie, our Tour Director.  Howie sat down with us and presented us with our welcome packet and directed us to your room so that we could relax and freshen up before our welcome dinner.  Our room at the hotel was amazing and quite comfortable. That evening, we went to a local restaurant and were treated to a welcome reception with great wine, food and dessert. It was nice to get to know our fellow travelers in this setting.

The next morning we had breakfast buffet that was fit for a king at the hotel! They had so many delicious choices to choose from.  After breakfast, we set off for our sightseeing in New York City!  Howie did a wonderful job throughout the day of bringing the city sights to life with insightful facts and interesting stories.  We took a horse carriage ride through Central Park and it was so relaxing and lovely.  We then had the remainder of the day or free time. Howie assisted any traveler that needed help in obtaining theatre tickets in Times Square.

After New York, we set off on our spacious motor coach to Newport. We spent the afternoon in Newport enjoying lunch with beautiful bay views and taking in the splendor of the Vanderbilt mansion.  We arrived in Boston that evening and were extremely impressed with our hotel, The Langham Boston.  The next day, Howie delighted us with a tour of downtown Boston.  Boston is rich with history and Howie had so much to share with us. That evening, we used our free time to visit Fenway Park and see a Red Sox game! It was a dream come true for my son.

After Boston, we headed to Philadelphia. Our hotel was in the heart of downtown and was absolutely gorgeous. The following day, Howie took us to the famous steps from the “Rocky” movie, which everyone really enjoyed!  Then, we had a guided tour of the Reading Terminal Market.  Our local guide brought the sights, tastes and sounds to life for us.  Out of the entire tour, the Reading Terminal Market tour was surprisingly my favorite.  We were given a history of the terminal and market along with several food samples which were out of this world.  After the market tour, we departed Philadelphia and headed to Washington D.C.

Again – the hotel was impeccable.  We stayed at the Fairmont Hotel in Georgetown and the location was ideal and close to many restaurants and stores or shopping.  Howie took us on a lovely night tour of some of the monuments in our nation’s capital.  This was such beautiful way to see these as they were illuminated for the evening. We visited the World War II memorial, which was very special to us as my grandfather had fought in the war and we were able to take a moment of silence to honor and remember him.

Big Savings – Book Early

We finished out tour with a glorious farewell dinner as a quaint restaurant called “Filomena”.  The cuisine was superb and we had a lovely time visiting with the other travelers and toasting to a safe journey home.

Insight Vacations gave us the perfect amount of time in each city that we visited with a combination of guided sightseeing and leisure time. Our Tour Guide and motor coach driver were friendly, knowledgeable, paid great attention to detail and were always on time. I cannot wait to take my next journey with Insight!
