“Greetings from the Roof of Africa!

This was the first message that I sent to my friends after reaching the top of Kilimanjaro and it perfectly sums up this truly wonderful experience that will stay with me and my husband for a lifetime.

There are many different tour operators that organize trips to the top of the highest peak in Africa, and I strongly believe that the one we chose, G Adventures, has the best team on the mountain. Our tour was the  Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route and Serengeti Adventure.

There are 7 established routes to Mount Kilimanjaro- Marangu, Machame, Lemosho, Shira, Rongai, Northern Circuit and Umbwe. We decided to do the Lemosho route, which is considered the least crowded and the most beautiful route on Kilimanjaro. It is also one of the longest routes, so it gave us extra time to acclimate, and a chance to navigate through the different types of terrain that Kili has to offer.

The G-team was amazing! Our team consisted of 11 travelers from 4 different continents and an incredible team of 38 Tanzanian men: 5 were guides, 1 was our chef with his two helpers and the rest were porters who carried not only our backpacks, tents and food, but also their personal stuff. They were very professional, supportive, energetic, fun, and knowledgeable!

From day one, it was clear that our safety during this adventure was their top priority. They performed regular medical checks, made us feel very comfortable, and always reassured us that we would make it to the summit. Also, everybody on the team was committed to do anything they could do to make our experience pleasant and unforgettable. Honestly, I don’t think we could have reached the summit without all their motivation and encouragement!

Climbing Kilimanjaro was one of the most physically and mentally challenging experiences of my life, but also one of the most amazing! I certainly stepped way out of my comfort zone, but with a positive attitude, effort, desire and much support from your other half, NOTHING is impossible! I’m happy to say that we made it to the summit.

After the climb and some rest, we did the 6 days safari, also with G Adventures. We explored 3 National Parks of Tanzania- Lake Manyara National Park, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater, which is the 8th wonder of the world.

During our game drives, we had a chance to see a lot of wildlife species within their natural habitats. Our tour guide and driver were very good at spotting them in some remote and hidden places.
