Our Active and Discovery on the Danube with Avalon began in Budapest, and we arrived at night. Budapest by night was gorgeous. The Matthias Church Cathedral and Castle on the Buda side and the Hungarian Parliament Building on the Pest side illuminated stunning views that straddled the Danube River. Our Hilton Hotel sat centrally located atop the Buda Castle Hill in the castle district, right next to the Holy Trinity Square. We dined at a table situated directly in front of the glistening black Danube as ships sailed by in both directions. What made it more stunning was the Parliament building lit in opulent amber light as its backdrop. Dinner included a piping hot bowl of delicious traditional Hungarian Goulash.
I just returned from my 3rdAvalon Waterways river cruise, and once again they did not disappoint! This time, I selected Danube Dreams with Avalon Waterways with Berlin â this itinerary has two nights in Berlin, and two nights in Prague before boarding the ship in Deggendorf and sailing through to Prague.
Several weeks ago, we traveled along the fabled Danube River on the Danube Waltz with Viking Bragi-Norse God of poetry & music. As it turned out, this was the perfect name for the ship. The Danube Waltz itinerary was a true feast for all our senses, with its charming villages, ancient capitals, art museums, castles and amazing new food and drinking experiences. Sharing all this with old and new friends made it all that more magical.
Danube Waltz with Viking was my first cruise with Viking River Cruise, and it was everything I dreamt of and more. Sailing through the heart of Europe to unforgettable destinations in 4 countries with VIP access.
After many years of ocean cruises and land vacations, I was blessed to take my very first river cruise. The Danube Waltz with Viking (Budapest to Passau) has become one of most favorite and memorable vacations. There is a tremendous amount of cultural and historical sites throughout the region. What better way to visit each of these ports of calls nestled along the Danube River. This 8-day itinerary allowed us to see the highlights of Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Krems and Linz, Austria, along with Passau, Germany. These are not only some of the most beautiful European countries and cities but they are all designated UNESCO sites.
