We decided to do the Rhine Getaway with Viking (Basel to Amsterdam), because we both wanted to explore Germany more, and neither of us had spent much (if any) time there. We flew into Basel, and had a delightful day there. We arrived at the airport – be careful there – you can exit into two different countries! – and made our way into beautiful, iconic Switzerland.

Traveling to Myanmar, known as “The Golden Land,” we knew we were in for a treat. We were looking for something different because both of us are pretty well-traveled and love off the beaten path destinations. We wanted to travel somewhere that was special, and culturally rich, unspoiled by a more Western, modern culture. Luckily for us, Myanmar with Avalon Waterways provided every aspect of the experience that we wanted, and then some. This was absolutely the vacation of a lifetime.

Review: Western Mediterranean With Star Clippers Line

One week after the Cannes Film Festival, I took a familiarity trip, Western Mediterranean with Star Clippers Line, aboard the current largest sailing yacht sailing today – the Royal Clipper. At 439 feet long, sporting five masts and 42 sails, she’s a beauty. Carrying 106 crew, and 227 passengers at full capacity, we enjoyed a 1 crew to every 2 passenger ratio, presenting really excellent service.
