Fiji Cruises Travel Tips

  • In general, the nation of Fiji is much less concerned with time than the Western world is, and citizens tend to just go with the flow. Don't be surprised if your tour guide isn't as concerned as you are with taking off on time.
  • You'll probably hear people saying "Bula!" to you at every stop. This is the national greeting of Fiji and literally means "life." People say "bula" in greeting, after someone sneezes, and every occasion in between!
  • The Fijian language has no gender-specific terms, so you might hear "he" in reference to a woman.
  • If you plan to visit a village, you'll likely go through a sevusevu, which is a gift-giving ceremony. Bring a small gift and make sure you're dressed conservatively with nothing on your head.
  • Be wary of eating reef fish, as they can easily make you sick. Fish species like mahi-mahi, tuna, and marlin are fine to consume.

Quick Facts

Fijis temperatures stay constant for the most part of the year, however, it is divided between a wet season and a dry season. The temperatures in Fiji never rise above the 80s and rarely go below the 70s.

  • Dry Season - May to October - Good Season

It is recommended to visit Fiji, as well as many other nations in the South Pacific, from August to October. During these months, the region sees less rainfall than it does for the rest of the year. You're likely to experience higher prices for attractions, though, since this is the peak season. Fiji is also pleasurable from May and June, which is considered the shoulder season. You'll still have warm weather with high temperatures in the low 80s Fahrenheit, but there aren't quite as many tourists. You'll wind up with more affordable prices and fewer crowds to deal with.

  • Wet Season - November to April - Low Season

Finally, it's not generally recommended to visit Fiji from November through April. While you may have comfortable weather conditions for most of your visit, there is a greater chance for tropical storms during these months. If at all possible, schedule your trip outside of this season.
