Bahamas Cruises Travel Tips

  • All of the locals here are used to a slow lifestyle, and they live very relaxedly. Because of this, don't plan on sticking to a reliable schedule because you may not always be able to get reliable transportation.
  • Paradise Island is the most popular place to visit because it's home to Atlantis, but make sure you get out and explore the rest of the Bahamas too when you visit. The Bahamas is more than just Atlantis!
  • Keep in mind that water sports here aren't regulated. So, be careful if someone comes up to you and offers you rentals, boats, etc. Think carefully before you purchase!
  • The Bahamas may be a laid-back destination, but it's good to honor local customs. Dress modestly when you're off the beach and ready to explore the towns. Also, a friendly attitude goes a long way. Learn a few phrases in the local dialect - a simple "Hey" (hello) or "Wah happen?" (what's happening?) can earn you a warm smile.
  • It is super easy to get a taxi in the Bahamas, but for safety reasons, make sure that you only get in one that is marked and is licensed. To be safe, consider asking your resort receptionist to order a taxi for you.
  • Safety is key, just as in any travel destination. Stick to the main tourist areas, especially at night, and keep an eye on your belongings. It's about being cautious, not paranoid.
  • Currency-wise, the Bahamian dollar is on par with the US dollar, which is also widely accepted. It's convenient for travelers, making transactions smooth.
  • Light, breathable clothing is your best companion, given the tropical climate. Don't forget essentials like sunscreen, a hat, good walking shoes for excursions, and a swimsuit (or two). Include an outfit for formal nights on the cruise and an extra layer for cooler evenings. And, of course, pack a reusable water bottle to stay hydrated and respect the environment.

Bahamas Cruise Packages

  • The Perfect Time for a Bahama Cruise

Cruising to the Bahamas is an experience like no other, and finding the perfect time for it can enhance your journey immensely. From mid-December to mid-April, the prime cruising season unfolds under the ever-present Bahamian sun. This period is ideal as it avoids the hot, wet summer months and offers a warm, dry climate, perfect for beach excursions and island hopping. Temperatures during this time are delightful for cruising, typically around 70-80°F (21-27°C), making it the most popular time for travelers to explore these enchanting islands.

For those who prefer a quieter cruise experience, May to early December can be an ideal choice. Cruising during these months means encountering fewer tourists and enjoying serene, unspoiled beaches. This "wet season" in the Bahamas does bring brief, heavy showers, usually in the late afternoon, but they contribute to the lush, vibrant landscapes of the islands. The temperatures remain pleasant for cruising, averaging 80-85°F (27-29°C), ensuring comfortable exploration both on land and at sea.

It's important to consider the June to November period, marked as the official hurricane season in the Bahamas. While direct hurricane hits are rare, they can occasionally disrupt cruise schedules. However, this period also presents an opportunity, as cruise lines often offer attractive rates due to the lower tourist traffic. For those willing to take the chance, cruising the Bahamas during this time can offer exceptional value and a chance to experience the islands' tranquility without the usual crowds.

  • Getting There

Navigating to the sun-drenched paradise of the Bahamas is a breeze. Just off the southeastern coast of Florida, this archipelago of 700 islands sits sparkling in the Atlantic Ocean, beckoning travelers from around the globe. Most Bahama cruises set sail from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or Port Canaveral, offering short but magical journeys to these Caribbean jewels.

Upon the azure waves, cruise ships glide into welcoming ports like Nassau, Freeport, and the private islands owned by cruise lines themselves, offering hassle-free entry to your tropical getaway. These ports are well-equipped and traveler-friendly and serve as your gateway to the island's many splendors. The moment your ship docks, you're just steps away from the beginning of your unforgettable Bahamian adventure.

  • Why Book a Cruise to the Bahamas?

Wondering why you should set sail for the Bahamas on a cruise? Well, it's more than just a journey; it's your ticket to a hassle-free and value-packed adventure. Here's why:

First off, a Bahamian cruise offers incredible value for money. Your accommodation, transport, and entertainment are all rolled into one price, often including delectable dining options and engaging on-board activities. It's like multiple vacations in one, without the constant packing and unpacking.

Then there's the sheer convenience. Forget lengthy layovers and tricky transfers. Cruises take you from one magical island to the next while you sleep, eat, play, or relax on deck. You'll wake up in new destinations ready to explore, no effort needed.

Cruises also provide unique coastal views that landbound tourists miss. Imagine watching the sun dip below the horizon from your balcony, painting the sky with vibrant Caribbean colors, all while sipping your favorite drink.

And let's not forget exclusive access. Some cruises offer private island getaways reserved solely for their passengers. These pristine, uncrowded paradises might just make you feel like a VIP, enhancing the exclusivity of your trip.

Booking a cruise to the Bahamas isn't just a plan; it's a must for those seeking an easy, value-rich, and versatile escape to an island paradise.

  • Experience the Flavors of Bahama

Get ready to tantalize your taste buds with the authentic flavors of the Bahamas! The Bahamian cuisine is a rich blend of the sea's bounty and tropical delights. It's impossible to ignore the national dish, conch. Try conch salad, where this marine mollusk is mixed with citrus and spices, giving it a flavor that dances on the palate. Don't miss out on the crack conch with its crispy, savory delight.

For a sweet tooth, the guava duff is a masterpiece. This traditional dessert, rich with fruit and dough, often comes with a side of butter rum sauce for an extra kick. As for drinks, the Bahama Mama cocktail is legendary, offering a sweet, refreshing taste that captures the island's spirit.

While the cruise ship will have its own array of gourmet dining, make sure to step out at port stops like Nassau or Freeport. Here, local restaurants and beachside shacks serve up these authentic dishes, often paired with panoramic sea views. Your Bahamian culinary adventure is sure to be a highlight of your trip!

  • Immerse Yourself in Bahama Culture

Set sail for an immersive cultural treasure right in the heart of the Caribbean - the Bahamas. From the moment you step off the cruise ship, the vibrant Bahamian culture promises to enchant you with its rich history and colorful traditions.

Feel the rhythm of the islands by experiencing Junkanoo, a street carnival with roots in the days of slavery; its pulsating drums and dazzling costumes are a spectacle not to be missed. Held on Boxing Day and New Year's Day, it's a thrilling display of music, dance, and artistry.

Discover the nation's colonial past in Nassau's architecture, where structures like the Government House stand in pastel perfection. Engage with local artisans at craft markets, their works a testament to the island's creative spirit, and don't skip a visit to a 'People-to-People Tea Party' to mingle with locals over traditional Bahamian tea and pastries.

With every warm smile, you'll feel an unspoken invitation to embrace the Bahamian way of life, making your cruise a journey of cultural connection.

  • Ready to Book Your Bahama Cruise?

Is the call of sun-kissed beaches, vibrant cultures, and tranquil waters speaking to you? There's no doubt a Bahamian cruise is your answer. Imagine unwinding on the deck as your ship makes its way to the paradise that is the Bahamas, each island welcoming you with its unique charm and beauty.

From the historical allure of Nassau to the serene landscapes of the Out Islands, an endless array of adventures awaits. Dive into the crystal-clear waters, bask on pristine beaches, or simply indulge in the laid-back island lifestyle. And let's not forget the delectable cuisine, teeming with fresh seafood and exotic fruits!

Booking your cruise is like unlocking a gateway to relaxation and discovery.
