Minimum Age Policy on HX Expeditions Cruises

For HX Hurtigruten Expeditions cruises to Antarctica and South Georgia, children under the age of 5 are not permitted to travel. Children under 12 may be considered for participation in excursions; however, their involvement in small-boat landings is subject to the captain’s discretion.

Travel Protection Options on HX Expeditions Cruises

All guests participating in expeditions to Alaska, Antarctica, the Northwest Passage, Northeast Greenland, Transatlantic crossings, or Grand Expedition Cruises are required to have travel insurance that includes coverage for medical evacuation and repatriation. Additionally, guests traveling to the Galápagos Islands must carry both health and travel insurance, as mandated by the government of Ecuador.

Dining on HX Expeditions Cruises

With a wide variety of options available, guests can enjoy a dining experience that caters to nearly every craving. Mornings begin with a generous buffet breakfast, followed by a tempting selection of à la carte dishes served throughout the day. Meals are complemented by included house wine, beer, and soft drinks.

Guests can select from a wide range of hot and cold beverages, whether seeking a morning caffeine boost or a sweet treat after lunch. Refill stations for OceanBottles are conveniently located throughout the ship, promoting hydration while eliminating single-use plastics.

As part of the all-inclusive experience, a variety of drinks are available throughout the day and evening at no extra charge, with the exception of premium selections. Whether enjoying a glass of wine or beer at the Pool Bar before dinner or relaxing with a cocktail in the Explorer Lounge, guests can sip and unwind at their leisure.

Fuel Surcharge Policy on HX Expeditions Cruises

HX reserves the right to add certain specified additional charges to the price of your booking such as, for example, a fuel surcharge, in the event that there may be increased costs or if an airline raises rates or imposes surcharges up to 30 days before departure.

Tipping Policy on HX Expeditions Cruises

Exceptional service is a hallmark of HX Expeditions, and no discretionary charges are added to guest bills. While gratuities are not expected, any additional gesture of appreciation is always welcome.

Payments / Refunds on on HX Expeditions Cruises

If you book 90 days or more before your scheduled departure date a non-refundable deposit of 25% shall be paid when you book. The full balance is due 90 days before your scheduled departure date.

The cancellation charges for HX are based on the number of days before departure that the cancellation is received. If the cancellation is made 90 or more days prior to departure, 25% of the total package cost will be charged. For cancellations made between 60 and 89 days before departure, the charge is 50% of the total package cost. If the cancellation occurs between 30 and 59 days prior, 75% will be charged. Cancellations made less than 30 days before departure will incur a 100% charge. In all cases, the total package cost is non-refundable once within 30 days of departure.

Smoking Policy on HX Expeditions Cruises

Smoking on board is only allowed in designated areas located on the outside decks. It is strictly prohibited in cabins and on private balconies. Disposing of cigarette butts overboard is not allowed under any circumstances. A cleaning fee of approximately 150 EUR will be charged for smoking in a cabin or suite, to cover the cost of restoring it to a non-smoking condition. Under Norwegian law, e-cigarettes are treated the same as tobacco products and may only be used in designated smoking areas.

For guests aboard the Santa Cruz II, smoking is permitted only on the Sky Deck, where ashtrays are provided. Smoking is not allowed in cabins, and cigarette disposal overboard is strictly forbidden. Additionally, smoking is strictly prohibited while ashore within the Galapagos Islands National Park.
