  Bourbon Street is the historic street in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It's said to be the central hub of all of the city. It's also the most popular and touristic area of the city, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't visit it at least once in New Orleans! Along the street, there are many popular bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and shops. This is where all of the parties happen inside Bourbon Street! This is also home to the "go cup," which is extremely popular in New Orleans. Essentially, people are allowed to go outside with their alcohol in this area.

  Bourbon Street is commonly busy. No matter what time of day you visit, this is the busiest part of New Orleans.

  Learn at the New Orleans Jazz Museum

  The New Orleans Jazz Museum is the perfect place to visit to learn more about the city's long history with music. It opened in 1981 and has a minimal admission fee, so there's no reason not to visit! For the longest time, the museum was solely the spot where the United States Mint's branch in New Orleans was held. Now, the museum is part of the United States Mint and is filled with fun educational experiences, such as concerts, interactive exhibits, performances, and more. They hold over 365 concerts throughout the year, so there's most likely one being held the very day that you visit New Orleans!

  Relax in Audubon Park

  Audubon Park is a beautiful green space located right in New Orlean's Uptown neighborhood. It covers over 350 acres and was first established back in 1871. It's only six miles away from the city center and is a great escape from city life.   This is the perfect place to go for a picnic. There are also many other activities in Audubon Park, including jogging paths, the Riverview, tennis courts, playgrounds, riding stables, and more. Be sure to grab a map when you first enter the park to get an overview of just how big the park is.

  Visit the St. Louis Cathedral

  St. Louis Cathedral is a gorgeous Basilica named after France's King Louis IX. It's only a short walk away from Jackson Square, so it's right in the most popular spots of New Orleans. It's built in the Spanish Colonial style of architecture and opened back in 1720. This church is built right along the Mississippi River and is truly worth exploring during your trip to New Orleans. The inside is architecturally gorgeous, as is the outside. One of the best ways to experience the cathedral is by hopping on a tour. A few different tours are offered, including a self-guided tour with a map.

  Listen to live music at Jackson Square

  Jackson Square is a gorgeous plaza in the French Quarter in New Orleans. It became a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and is filled with beautiful views, including the St. Louis Cathedral. It's most well-known for being an important site for the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. The square itself first was built in the early 18th century and is a popular spot for gathering within the city. The most famous festival held here is the caroling festival held every wintertime. This is also a great place to visit to listen to live music, as there are almost always street performers here for the public!

  Jackson Square is also filled with lots of small vendors, but be careful not to pay too much for a souvenir that you could purchase cheaper elsewhere.

  Visit Mardi Gras World

  Blaine Kern's Mardi Gras World is a vast art museum and tourist attraction right in New Orleans. It's the place to go if you're interested in learning more about Mardi Gras. It's right along the Mississippi River. Inside, there are over 300,000 square feet filled with Mardi Gras floats that are used in the infamous parades. Inside this warehouse, you can often even see floats that are currently in progress. Frequently, there are artists inside working on floats for next year's parades!

  Rates change depending on the time of year. Though the warehouse opens at 10:30, tours aren't offered until 11:00 a.m.

  See the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas

  The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas opened in 1990. It's the main aquarium in the New Orleans area and is the perfect place to go and explore with a family or if you find that it's a rainy day during your visit to the city. Like many of New Orleans' other popular attractions, this is also located right along the Mississippi River in the French Quarter of the city. There are over 3,600 different animals inside, including over 250 species. This aquarium is known for being home to some endangered species, including white alligators and African penguins.

  The New Orleans Pharmacy Museum is one of the most unique museums of its kind in the United States. It's inside an old apothecary from 1823 and is filled with many medicines from that time, including cures said to be superstitious. The main focus of the New Orleans Pharmacy Museum is the very first licensed pharmacist in the United States, Louis J. Dufilho, Jr. If you want to have a unique look into the history of New Orleans, this is the place to see it!

  The Chalmette Battlefield is a historical park located right outside of New Orleans in Chalmette, Louisiana. It's home to the battlefield from 1815, and there are still some old artifacts across the battlefield. What makes Chalmette Battlefield so historically significant in the United States is that it's the last battle fought on American soil. To get a real look into Chalmette Battlefield, be sure to hop on one of there many guided tours.
