Overview

Koh Samui, Thailand has been settled for about 1500 years. The initial arrivals here were fishermen. The island is to be found on 500 years old maps from Chinese Ming dynasty. Fishing and later coconuts has been the foremost source of income on Koh Samui island. Koh Samui is located in the Gulf of Thailand in South China Sea in the Pacific Ocean. Today, tourist from the whole world go to this easy going grandeur. Until the late 20th Century Samui was an isolated self-sufficient community, having little association with the mainland of Thailand. The island was even without roads and the 8 mile journey from one side of the island to the other involved a whole-day hike through the rocky central jungles.  Today, Samui has a inhabitants of about forty-five thousand, and lives on a successful tourists industry, as well as exports of coconut and rubber. It even has an international airport, with flights daily to Bangkok and other major airports in South East Asia.

The beautiful port of Ko Samui makes it easy to let the sun and sea lead you into the feeling that you never want to leave from the beach and see the sights. But Ko Samui is an island of great natural magnificence and variety. Even those who don't get energized about sightseeing will find that the journeys to these attractions will provide their own pleasure.

One site seeing spot is the Eight Headed Coconut Tree where you can see one million coconut palms. Some even have 8 heads. Make sure you are dressed properly for this trip wear long pants and sturdy shoes for the hike through the jungle.

Or go hiking and see the Hin Lad Waterfall. Hikers will take pleasure in walk through the forest to reach this spot, where the falls with their divine natural bathing pool anticipates you.
