Overview

Olbia is a town in northeastern Sardinia, Italy. Olbia has a population of approximately 40,000 people. Olbia is very ancient and was possibly founded by the Greeks, according to a local legend. It contains ruins from prehistoric times to the Roman Era, when it was an key port, and the Middle Ages, when it was the capital of the Giudicato of Gallura, one of the four independent states of Sardinia. It is the main connection between Sardinia and the Italian peninsula, with an airport, a passenger port, and a railway to Porto Torres and Cagliari. Olbia is not only a destination for tourist passing through the Costa Smeralda, it has become a tourist location able to suit even the needs of the most needy.

When you go to Olbia you are going to take a trip back into time. o vist some historical sites, among its significant monuments is the city's ex Cathedral, situated in the old town and dedicated to St. Simplicio, bishop of Olbia martyred under the Diocletian Emperor in the III century A.D. The church was constructed in three different phases from the 11th and the12th Centuries and over a Roman Necropolis, the remains of which are still visible inside the church.
