Minimum Age to Sail Unaccompanied
Royal Caribbean's minimum age for sailing unaccompanied is:
- 21 years old for sailings originating in North America.
- 18 years old for sailings originating in South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
Royal Caribbean reserves the right to increase the minimum age for unaccompanied travel on any sailing in certain cases, particularly when local laws require or allow such changes.
For sailings departing from North America:
- No guest under 21 will be assigned to a stateroom unless accompanied by an adult (21 or older) in the same room. A guest's age is determined by their first sailing date.
- This restriction does not apply to children traveling with their parents or guardians in connecting staterooms, underage married couples, or active-duty U.S. or Canadian military members.
- Additional restrictions, such as complying with the 21+ alcohol policy and providing proof of marriage or military status, may apply.
Infant Policy
Infants must be at least 6 months old on the first day of the cruise or CruiseTour. However, for certain cruises, including transatlantic, transpacific, Hawaii, select South American cruises, and those with 3 or more consecutive days at sea, infants must be at least 12 months old on the first day of the cruise.
Guests traveling with infants not meeting the age requirement will be denied boarding, with no refunds or compensation provided by the cruise line.
Alcohol Policy
- For sailings originating in North America or the Caribbean, the minimum age to consume alcohol is 21.
- For sailings originating in South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, the minimum age to consume alcohol is 18.
- The minimum age to consume alcohol at private destinations is always 21, regardless of the departure region.
Royal Caribbean may raise the minimum drinking age on any sailing due to local laws.
Guests violating alcohol policies (including overconsumption, providing alcohol to underage guests, irresponsible behavior, or attempting to conceal alcohol) may be disembarked or denied boarding, at their own expense, according to the Guest Conduct Policy. Guests under 21 will not have confiscated alcohol returned to them.
Alcohol consumption restrictions are generally lifted for minors in bars, except for adult-themed events and locations like the Adult Night Club. Guests should check the Cruise Compass for guidance specific to each ship and itinerary.
Gambling Policy
Guests 18 years and older may gamble on most sailings, except for Alaska sailings, where the minimum age is 21 to enter the casino.
Proof of Age
Royal Caribbean reserves the right to request proof of age. Age for gambling and alcohol consumption is based on the guest's age on the sailing date. If a guest turns 21 during the cruise, they may request a record update at Guest Services to permit alcohol consumption for the remainder of the voyage. I am not the typical person to cruise. I prefer active vacations, like bike riding every day or riding and hiking and skiing alternate days. That said, it was enjoyable to be with my 11 friends and swim in the salt water pool each day. Meals were lovely, and I found the accommodations acceptable, though a bit cramped compared with hotels on land.
