Yantai is a city in the northern Shadong province of the republic of China. It is the largest seaport of Shandong. The name Yantai came from the watchtowers constructed on Mount Qi, during the Ming Dynasty, which served to watch against invasions of Japanese pirates. Today Yantai is a prefecture-level city.
