Patras is a city in Greece. It is the third-largest urban area in West Greece. It is located in the northern Peloponnese. An annual carnival is held from January until Clean Monday, called the Patras Carnival. The city is built at the foothills of Mount Panachaikon. Patras is a famous settlement in history because it said by the Christian tradition that it was the place of Saint Andrew's martyrdom. Also, it was the the cosmopolitan center of the eastern Mediterranean whilst during the Roman period. Patras was named European Capital of Culture in 2006.
