Samana is the largest city located 134 miles east of Puerto Plata. This port town overlooks the country's bay. A terrible fire destroyed the town but was later rebuilt now to include hotels, bars, restaurants, and resorts.

In the months of January, February, and March, the Humpback Whale watching
begins. More than ten thousand of these gigantic mammals come to this area from
