Tobago, with its population of about 20,000, is the largest town in Tobago. The city became the capital in 1769 and was named Port Louis under French rule. Rich in oil, natural gas, rainforest, and coral reefs, the island of Tobago is a great tourist destination. Ruled in the 18th century by King George III, the fort now museum holds archaeological and historic artifacts.
