Overview

The City of Galveston is an island in Southeast Texas and is one of the largest ports in the United States. Located about 50 miles from Houston, Texas, the 32 mile long island is only 2 miles from the mainland. It is home to six historic districts containing one of the largest and historically significant collections of 19th-century buildings in the country, with over 60 structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Activities
  • Take a private or self guided tour through Galveston's grandest and best-known building, the Bishop’s Palace. It is full of stained glass windows, rare woods, intricately carved ornaments, luxury furnishings and impressive fireplaces from around the world.
  • Catch a show at The Grand 1894 Opera House, one of the few remaining theatres of its era in Texas and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
  • Visit one of the oldest public libraries in Texas that has had continuous operation, The Rosenberg Library.
