Overview

Lyttleton is a small port in Christchurch, New Zealand. Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand. With much of the city being flat and only a little above sea level, impressive views can be seen from almost any high building. At these low elevations the city looks more like a forest with only a few buildings visible, rather than a major city. A road tunnel was assembled between Lyttelton and Christchurch in the early 1960s to provide instant access to the port. Tourism is a major factor of the local economy. The proximity of the ski-fields and other attractions of the Southern Alps, and hotels and an airport that meet international standards make Christchurch a stopover target for many tourists.
