Manzanillo also has a beach resort and, is the self-proclaimed "sailfish capital" of the world, it hosts a annual sailfish fishing tournament. In 2004 its port surpassed Veracruz as the biggest port in Mexico and is the chief commercial port on the Mexican Pacific coast. Port business began a significant surge during the longshoremen strike in Long Beach, California in 2002. Manzanillo also hosts the most economical port for tuna landings in Mexico.
