Overview

Tórshavn is the capital of the Faroe Islands. The city is located in Tórshavn municipality on the southern Streymoy island and has a population of about 20,000. The parliament Logting, is located in the Tinganes peninsula of Torshavn. The name of the city means Thor's Harbor, named after the god of thunder and lightning in Norse Mythology. To the northwest of the town lies the 1,500 foot high mountain Húsareyn.
