Ermoupoli is a city in eastern Greece. It is the capital and main city of the island of Syros and the Cyclades prefecture. It has a population of about 13,500. Ermoupoli was founded during the Greek revolution of 1820. It soon became the leading commercial and indusrial center of Greece until it was eclipsed by Piraeus in the late 19th century.
