Overview

Charlestown was built in a protected area on the Leeward side of Nevis, located between Fort Charles and the Fort Black Rocks. Most of the original buildings were destroyed over time by earthquakes. The city was the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, and is the site of the oldest synagogue in the Caribbean. During the 17th century many Sephardic Jews came to Nevis and the Antilles after being expelled from Brazil.

Things to Do

Visit the beautiful beaches while you are here. Take advantage of the swimming and snorkeling in the warm waters of Charlestown. Enjoy a nice walk on the beach and relax the day away. Diving and snorkeling is also encouraged due to the clear warm water.

The Alexander Hamilton House is another great place to visit to learn some history of Alexander Hamilton. This location is the birthplace of the U.S. National Bank. A great museum to visit with the family.
