Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is the capital of the Galapagos Province, in Ecuador. It is located along the southwestern coast of San Cristobal Island, the easternmost island in the archipelago. Although it is the capital, the town has only the second largest population. Puerto Baquerizo has about 5,700 people, primarily fishermen. The primary industries are fishing, tourism, and farming. The town includes an Interpretation Center, but its touristy infrastructure is not as advanced as in Puerto Ayora. The city gets its name from the former president Alfredo Baquerizo Moreno.
There are three key bars on the island; Polo's
Bar, Iguana Rock, and Voqui Bar. In general people start at Polo's and then head
to Iguana Rock to dance. When Iguana's closes, head to Voqui for some late night
pool or the sole Discotheque of the island, above Calypo's. So visit one or take
in all three.
This island is quickly becoming a surfing hotbed. And the perfect spot on the
island for it is Tongo Reef.
