Overview

Prince Rupert is located on the North Coast of British Columbia, Canada.  It is a growing northern city with beautiful surroundings which makes it the tourism center that it is.  Prince Rupert currently relies on the fishing industry, tourism and the port for its revenue.   The sheltered harbour is the deepest ice-free natural harbour in North America.  Prince Rupert is known as "The City of Rainbows", it is Canada's wettest city and also the city with the least amount of sunshine.  Winters are relatively mild although frosts and blasts of cold artic air from the northeast are not uncommon.

Things to Do

Prince Rupert is a central point on the Inside Passage which many cruise lines pass through. Prince Rupert is also the starting point for many wildlife viewing trips including whales, eagles and grizzly bears.  The Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear sanctuary features one of the densest remaining populations in North America, tours can be arranged by water or air. 

Cow Bay is located 10 minutes from downtown and features a walkway alongside the harbour.  While strolling along you will see unique stores and charming cafes that are housed in restored buildings.  All this walking will give you a hearty appetite which you can extinguish at any one of the cafes that serve amazing seafood. 

The Butze Rapids Trail is about 3 miles long which takes hikers through old growth forests.  You can view the Butze Rapids from this trail.  Be careful and follow the signs around the trail there are short and steep sections and do be careful certain wildlife such as wolves have been known to frequent the area.
