Gustavia is a town on the Island of St. Barths in Guadeloupe. Gustavia served the useful purpose of providing a trade and supply center for the different military divisions. When a ship captain captured a prize, they could sell the goods in St. Barths, and at the same time re-supply there own ship. Overflowing warehouses surround a harbor filled with ships from many nations, and a commercial and architectural tradition was established that has lingered to the present day. Today, the town has attuned itself to satisfy the growing number of visiting tourists.
There are a couple of historic places to see in Gustavia. You should visit the Musee Municipal de St. Barthelemy and the Lighthouse of Gustavia. Both places will fill you up on the history of this popular port.
