Gythion is a town in Greece, also known as the seaport of Sparta some 30 miles inland. Gythion has an estimated population of 5,000. The alleged founders of ancient Gythium were Heracles and Apollo, who regularly appear on its coins. The modern Gythion opened a port in the 1960s. The geography of Gythion includes houses aligned with the hill and the Laconian Gulf. The port is located around its main street of the island. Pine trees are located in the west and mountains in the north. Gythion is renowned for its attractive women and its delectable sea food.

One very important place to visit is the Church of Greece. The church is one of the fourteen or fifteen autocephalous Eastern Orthodox churches which make up the Eastern Orthodox Communion. Today it is one of the most vital autocephalous churches of the Eastern Orthodox communion.
