Talcahuano is a port city of Chile. Talcahuano began in history books as early as 1544 when the Genoese captain, Juan Bautista Pastene discovered the mouth of the Bio-Bio river while exploring the coast. Talcahuano is located in the south of the central zone of Chile. Talcahuano is the home of Chile's main naval base which is home of the historical relic, the Huascar, a Peruvian ship which was seized in 1879 during the War of the Pacific.
A couple of stops you should make if you visit Talcahuano are Municipal Market, Museum of History, Museum Cathedral of the Santisima Concepcion, and the Museum of Natural History.
