Overview

The new state of the art Brooklyn Cruise Terminal was open in April 2006 and offers cruisers all the services and comforts they would expect from a world class facility. Located in the Red Hook area, the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal surrounding area has seen a recent addition of new restaurants, shops and artists within walking distance of the port.

Things to Do

Iconic Neighborhoods

  • Red Hook - Located right across the water from Governors Island, Red Hook has a great mix of local distilleries, homey restaurants and a handful of parks.
  • Brooklyn Heights - The next neighborhoods from the cruise terminal is Brooklyn Heights which is a posh residential area full of brownstones. With tons of trees covering walkways and playgrounds, there is lots of waterfront gathering areas.

Activities
  • There are lots of art galleries within walking distance of the cruise terminal. Check out Kentler International Drawing Space, Look North Gallery or Supersmith.
  • Grab a quick tour and drink at one of the local breweries, wineries, and distilleries. Walk over to Red hook Winery, Sixpoint Brewery, Van Brunt Stillhouse or Widow Jane Distillery.
Family Friendly
  • Head to the Water Front Museum, founded in 1985 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Go on a free boat tour, stroll through the gardens or watch the sunset over the Statue of Liberty.
  • Take a short ride over to the 12 acre Prospect Park Zoo. With more than 125 species, this zoo is fun for the whole family. Stop at the Prospect Park Carousel for some added family fun.

From Newark(EWR) Via Battery Tunnel:

  • Take the US-1-9 ramp toward RT-21 / Newark Downtown / US-22 / I-78.
  • Merge onto US-1 &9 N / US-9 N /US-1 N, which becomes 12th Street.
  • Follow 12th Street, pay the portions toll at Boyle Plaza, and continue to the Holland Tunnel into Manhattan. 
  • Take Exit 1 towards Route 9A / West Side Highway / West St, take a slight left onto Laight Street, then take a left onto Route 9A / West Side Highway and continue south.
  • Take the Battery Tunnel (Exit 2) towards I-278 / Brooklyn.
  • Continue onto the westbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (I-278-W) and immediately take the first exit on the right:Exit 26- Hamilton Avenue onto the service road.
  • Stay to the left and make a left-U-turn at the intersection of Hamilton Avenue with Clinton Street/9th Street, then continue west along the westbound Hamilton Avenue service road.
  • Continue on the service road to its end at Van Brunt Street.
  • Turn left at Van Brunt Street, travel 2 blocks and then turn right onto Bowne Street to enter the terminal.

From Newark (EWR) via Manhattan Bridge:

  • Take the US-1-9 ramp toward RT-21 / Newark Downtown / US-22 / I-78.
  • Merge onto US-1 &9 N / US-9 N / US-1 N, which becomes 12th Street.
  • Follow 12th Street, pay the portions toll at Boyle Plaza, and continue to the Holland Tunnel into Manhattan.

  • Continue west along Canal Street, and merge onto the Manhattan Bridge on-ramp.
  • Take the off-ramp towards I-278W / Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and take Exit 26 - Hamilton Avenue onto the service road. Stay to the left and make a left-U-turn at the intersection of Hamilton Avenue with Clinton Street/9th Street, then continue west along the westbound Hamilton Avenue service road.
  • Continue on the service road to its end at Van Brunt Street. Turn left at Van Brunt Street, travel 2 blocks and then turn right onto Bowne Street to enter the terminal. 

Parking

While most travelers get dropped off at the cruise terminal, there is a parking lot 300 yards south of the terminal that has security.
