Carnival Cruise Line is committed to ensuring the safety of all guests and crew while providing a fun and memorable vacation experience.
Smoking Policy
Smoking poses a fire and safety risk aboard the ship and is therefore restricted to designated outdoor deck areas. All guests must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Staterooms, suites, and balconies are strictly non-smoking. This includes all forms of smoking, such as cigarettes, cigars, pipes, vaporizers, electronic cigarettes, and marijuana.
- While some destinations may allow marijuana use, Carnival Cruise Line complies with U.S. federal law, which prohibits the possession and use of recreational or medicinal marijuana and other controlled substances.
- Violations of this policy will result in a $500 fine per offense, charged to the guest’s Sail & Sign® account. Additionally, guests who violate the policy may be disembarked, with no refund for the unused portion of their cruise. They will also be responsible for any travel expenses incurred and may be prohibited from sailing with Carnival in the future.
Casino Smoking Rules
- Smoking is permitted only while seated and actively playing in the casino.
- Smoking is not allowed at the casino bar or in the casino when it is closed.
Additional Information
- The full smoking policy is outlined in Carnival’s Cruise Ticket Contract. Guests can refer to the contract for ship-specific smoking areas.
- In accordance with U.S. federal law, the minimum age to purchase tobacco products is 21 on all U.S.-based ships and itineraries.
For your comfort and enjoyment, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Therefore, cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas of the ship. Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, lounge, hallway, elevator, or corridor. This policy includes smoking-like products such as electronic cigarettes. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom, nor on any stateroom veranda. If you are in violation of this policy, a cleaning fee of $250 USD will be applied to your SeaPass® account and you may be subject to further action pursuant to the "Consequences Section" of the Guest Conduct Policy. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. You must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.
Additionally, there is a non-smoking policy on all components of the land tour portion of all Celebrity Cruises Cruisetour products. We appreciate your understanding and adherence.
Smoking cigarettes, cigars and pipes are only permitted in certain areas of the ships including cigar lounges, designated outdoor smoking areas and outside on private balconies. Smoking is strictly prohibited inside the cabins. To avoid the risk of fire, cigarettes must be extinguished and left in the ashtrays provided.
To ensure the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of all our guests, smoking (including electronic alternatives) is prohibited in staterooms, on balconies, and in public areas. Designated smoking areas are available on the open decks. The only exception to this policy is Churchill’s Cigar Lounge, which is reserved exclusively for cigar and pipe smokers. This policy has been implemented based on valuable feedback from our guests, prioritizing the well-being of everyone on board.
For the comfort and enjoyment of all our guests, Disney Cruise Line ships are designated primarily as non-smoking vessels. However, we understand that some guests do smoke. To accommodate these guests while ensuring a pleasant atmosphere for everyone, specific areas on the open-air decks of each ship are designated as smoking areas.
Smoking is strictly prohibited in guest staterooms and on private verandahs. Guests found smoking in these areas will incur a $250 fee, which will be added to their onboard account. It is essential for all guests to comply with the non-smoking regulations and to refrain from smoking pipes or cigars in any public areas. These guidelines are in place to ensure a comfortable experience for everyone on board.
Presently, all indoor areas are designated non-smoking with the exception of:
- Casino (Eurodam, Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam, Nieuw Statendam, Rotterdam, Volendam, Zaandam & Oosterdam)
- Northern Lights Disco (ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam only)
- Seaview Bar (except ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam & ms Statendam)
- Sports Bar
- Crow's Nest (except ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam)
All showrooms are nonsmoking during performances.
There are selected areas of the outside decks where smoking is allowable. Cigar and pipe smoking is only permitted on the outside decks.
Our ships do not currently have "nonsmoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the comfort of our guests.
All staterooms will be non-smoking areas, in addition to the other areas that were already defined as non-smoking. Smoking will continue to be permitted outside on stateroom verandahs. There are designated areas available for smoking both inside the ships and on outside decks as detailed above.
Smoking is only permitted in designated areas on the outside decks. Smoking is not permitted when the ships are in port and not allowed on deck during fueling of the ship in BGO. This will be advised by the staff. To show respect for the environment, please use the provided ashtrays. Throwing cigarette butts overboard is strictly prohibited. Smoking in the cabin is prohibited and subject to a cleaning charge to return the cabin to a non-smoking standard.
Smoking on board is only allowed in designated areas located on the outside decks. It is strictly prohibited in cabins and on private balconies. Disposing of cigarette butts overboard is not allowed under any circumstances. A cleaning fee of approximately 150 EUR will be charged for smoking in a cabin or suite, to cover the cost of restoring it to a non-smoking condition. Under Norwegian law, e-cigarettes are treated the same as tobacco products and may only be used in designated smoking areas.
For guests aboard the Santa Cruz II, smoking is permitted only on the Sky Deck, where ashtrays are provided. Smoking is not allowed in cabins, and cigarette disposal overboard is strictly forbidden. Additionally, smoking is strictly prohibited while ashore within the Galapagos Islands National Park.
At MSC Cruises, MSC tries to accommodate the guests' preferences. Smoking is permitted only in designed areas. Smoking is not permitted at any time in the dining room or main show lounge. The Carrier reserves the right to impose a fee if guests are found smoking in non-designated areas of the Vessel.
The health and safety of our guests and crew are our top priorities. As such, all indoor public areas on our ships, with the exception of the cigar lounges and casino, are smoke-free. Dedicated outdoor areas have been designated for smoking.

Any damage caused by smoking, such as to furnishings, verandas, decks, or surrounding areas, will result in additional charges.
To prioritize the comfort of our guests and in response to consumer research showing that smokers make up a small minority, Princess Cruises has implemented the following smoking policy:
Designated Smoking Areas
Clearly marked “Designated Smoking Areas” are available on board, with sufficient ashtrays that are regularly emptied. These areas generally include cigar lounges, a section of the nightclub, and designated spots on the open decks. The Casino and Casino Bar are non-smoking areas, except for specific slot machines where smoking is allowed while playing. All table games are non-smoking. Show lounges, dining rooms, and all food service areas on board are also non-smoking. For safety, guests are reminded to properly dispose of cigarettes, cigars, and pipe tobacco, and to never throw them overboard, as this may lead to fires if sucked back into the ship.
Stateroom Smoking Policy
Princess Cruises strictly prohibits smoking or vaping (including e-cigarettes) in guest staterooms and on balconies. This policy reflects the preferences of the majority of our guests who wish for their primary living space to remain smoke-free. As balconies are an essential feature of Princess Cruises, we aim to keep these peaceful spaces clear of smoke. A $250 fine will be charged to the guest’s stateroom account for each violation of this policy. In line with global trends and respecting the wishes of our guests, we believe this policy enhances the onboard experience.
For the comfort and safety of all our guests, smoking is prohibited in enclosed dining areas, public venues, elevators, the theater, and all suites and balconies. Please use the designated smoking areas provided, which are also available for electronic cigarettes.
Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the outdoor pool area and the following public rooms:
Seven Seas Splendor: Connoisseur Club, Pool area (designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)
Seven Seas Explorer: Connoisseur Club, Pool area (designated area opposite side of the Pool Bar)

Pipe smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club. Pipe smoking in open deck areas is considered an extreme fire hazard and is not permitted.
Failure to comply with the above smoking policy will result in guests being asked to leave the ship at their expense, without refund or credit for the unused portion of their cruise.
For the comfort and enjoyment of all guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking. However, we understand that some guests may wish to smoke, so we have designated specific areas onboard where smoking is permitted.
