Azamara Cruises

Azamara cruises have a designated smoking area on the portside forward section of the pool deck. This also includes the use of products like electronic cigarettes. However, smoking is prohibited throughout the rest of the ship in areas like public rooms, the pool decks, staterooms, hallways and restaurants. Smoking is also prohibited on all components of land tours.

Carnival Cruises

Effective on voyages departing October 9, 2014, or thereafter, all staterooms and suite accommodations are an entirely smoke free environment, including the outside balcony. This policy includes all forms of smoking, including but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, electronic cigarettes (E-cigarettes), tobacco pipes and personal vaporizers.

  • Cigarette, E-cigarette and personal vaporizer smoking will be allowed in Carnival's night clubs (except on Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Vista) and in certain areas within the casino (for playing guests while at designated slot machines and table games) and the casino bar.
  • Cigarette, E-cigarette, personal vaporizer, cigar and tobacco pipe smoking will be allowed in Carnival's Jazz clubs on the following ships: Carnival Triumph, Carnival Victory, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Glory, Carnival Valor, Carnival Liberty, Carnival Freedom and Carnival Splendor.
  • Cigarette, E-cigarette, personal vaporizer, cigar and tobacco pipe smoking will be allowed in designated exterior open deck areas.

Note: Guests who smoke in their staterooms or on their balconies will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival's cruise ticket contract. Guest agrees to strictly comply with Carnival’s non-smoking policy.

Smoking Policy Q&A

When did the new smoking policy go into effect?  Effective with any sailing departing October 9, 2014 and thereafter, smoking will NOT be allowed in any stateroom or suite, including the outside balcony. Cigarette, E-cigarette and personal vaporizer smoking will only be permitted in designated exterior open deck areas, as well as Carnival's night clubs (except on Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Vista), Jazz clubs (where available) and in certain areas within the casino (for playing guests while at designated slot machines and table games) and the casino bar. Cigar and tobacco pipe smoking will only be allowed in Jazz clubs (where available) and in designated exterior open deck areas.

Why did Carnival change its smoking policy?  Given that nearly 90 percent of Carnival's guests are non-smokers, Carnival wanted to have the shipboard experience align with today’s guest preferences.  Carnival constantly monitor all of the shipboard policies and solicit guest feedback to make sure Carnival stays up to date with consumers’ vacation wants and needs.

What happens if a guest is caught smoking in a stateroom or balcony?  They will be assessed a $250 cleaning and refreshing fee on their Sail & Sign account. Information on this fee is included in Carnival’s ticket contract.

With 90 percent of guests being non-smokers, why don’t you just make the ships entirely smoke-free? By instituting this change to Carnival's current smoking policy, Carnival is trying to strike a balance that will please all guests, both smokers and non-smokers alike.  The guests will see this as an enhancement to their on board experience and have an even better time sailing with us.

How did you notifying guests and travel partners of these changes?  Carnival has updated all of the collateral materials and communicated details of the change to the current smoking policy to Carnival's guests and travel partners via various channels.  These include email distribution of letters, social media, and web site updates.

I don’t like the new smoking policy; can I cancel my cruise without penalties? The new smoking policy for stateroom balconies went into effect on October 9, 2014, allowing guest’s time to cancel outside the penalty period if they felt the new policy would impact their ability to enjoy their cruise. Once the penalty period starts, normal penalties will apply.

How does this compare to the smoking policy of other cruise lines?   Carnival’s new smoking policy is consistent with the policy of most major cruise lines.

How does the new policy apply to team members? Shipboard staff is not allowed to smoke in any guest areas. Smoking will continue to be permitted in designated crew smoking areas. Team members with guest area privileges are not allowed to smoke in guest areas.

Celebrity Cruises

For your comfort and enjoyment, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests smoke. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom, nor on any stateroom veranda. Cunard Cruises

The safety, comfort and enjoyment of all our guests has always been a key concern at Cunard. With this in mind, as a direct result of the feedback we have received from our guests, we have amended our policy with regard to smoking on board Cunard ships. Smoking is no longer permitted in any public area with the exception of Churchill’s Cigar Lounge, designated areas on the open decks and the upper level of G32 on Queen Mary 2. Pipe and cigar smoking is only permitted in Churchill’s Cigar Lounge and on the permitted open decks spaces. Whilst smoking is permitted on private balconies, we would ask that guests are considerate and keep smoking in these areas to a minimum.

Disney Cruises

SMOKING/NONSMOKING POLICY For the comfort and enjoyment of our Guests, Disney Cruise Line ships have been primarily designated as non-smoking ships. However, it is recognized that some Guests smoke. To provide an onboard atmosphere that also satisfies smokers, portions of open-air decks on each ship are designated as smoking areas. Smoking is prohibited in Guest staterooms and private verandahs. Guests who are found smoking in their staterooms or on their verandahs will be charged $250, which will be added their folio. Smoking
In an effort to diminish the presence of smoke indoors, cigarette smoking is only permitted in the casino, where ashtrays and appropriate signage will be displayed. Guests may utilize the enclosed cigar bars on board Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Gem, Norwegian Pearl, Norwegian Dawn and Norwegian Spirit for cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking.

In addition, the policy allows guests to smoke cigarettes, cigars and pipes in outdoor public guest spaces and open decks, where designated by the appropriate signage. For the safety and security of all guests and staff onboard, Designated Smoking Areas are available on Deck 9, the forward starboard corner of the Pool Deck, and Deck 10, in the aft, port corner of Horizons. These areas are comfortably furnished and conveniently located near food and beverage areas. Smoking is expressly forbidden in all Staterooms and Suites, on verandas, or in any areas of the ship other than officially Designated Smoking Areas. Smoking in a stateroom or suite or on a veranda represents a serious fire and safety hazard to all guests and staff. Guests choosing to disregard this policy will be disembarked at the next port of call and may also be subject to additional fees that will be imposed to cover the costs associated with any damage to and the required cleaning of furnishings, verandas and surrounding deck and accommodation areas. All areas other than those specified as Designated Smoking Areas will remain smoke-free. This includes all guest suites and staterooms, verandas, restaurants, public areas, the Casino and all other areas of the ship. Cigar and Pipe smoking is only permitted on the forward starboard corner of the Pool Deck.

Princess Cruises

To enhance your dining experience, we have established a smoke-free dining policy. For your convenience, Princess offers other smoking areas throughout the ship.

Regent Cruises

In light of continuing legislative changes in smoking policies around the world as well as the comfort, health and safety of Regent's guests and crew, both in terms of the proven dangers of second hand smoke and the fire hazard that smoking presents, smoking is prohibited in all suites, staterooms and balconies fleet-wide.Not only does smoking present a fire hazard, but it is also an inconvenience to other guests as the smoke, or its odor, invades surrounding suites, balconies and public areas, creating discomfort for the guests in these areas (updated July 5, 2007; took effect at the end of 2007).

In addition, cigarette smoking is not permitted in any enclosed dining areas, whether it be the ships' main dining rooms or the alternate dining venues. Cigarette smoking is only permitted in designated areas of the outdoor Pool Grills. Other than open deck areas, the following are the only public rooms or areas where cigarette smoking is now permitted:

Seven Seas Voyager: Connoisseur Club, Casino, Voyager Lounge (designated area), Horizon Lounge (outside area only), Pool Bar
Seven Seas Mariner: Connoisseur Club, Casino, Horizon Lounge (outside area only), Stars Nightclub (designated area), Pool Bar

Cigar smoking is only permitted in the Connoisseur Club aboard Seven Seas Voyager, Mariner and Navigator, and in the designated area of the Pool Bar area aboard all four vessels.

Failure to comply with this policy will result in guests being asked to leave the ship at their expense, without refund or credit for the unused portion of their cruise.

Under this new policy, all indoor public spaces will be smoke free, with the exception of the Casino and the Connoisseur Club on Freedom and Voyager class ships, and one designated smoking venue on ships sailing from Chinese homeports.
