Madagascar is the fourth largest island, stretching 1,000 by 350 miles. Geologically, the island was formed when it broke away from the landmass of Africa approximately 50 million years ago. The east coast is lined with coral beaches and lagoons, and from here the land rises sharply to the great central plateau that covers most of the island. There are volcanic features such as crater lakes and steep sea cliffs in the far north and south. The isolation of Madagascar has allowed a unique and rich diversity of wildlife to evolve. This includes the small, spiny, insectivorous tenrec and many remarkable species of lemur. There are also crocodiles, chameleons, butterflies, and great numbers of birds. It is estimated that there are 10,000 species of flora of which 80 percent are found nowhere else in the world. Of the 400 flowering plant families known worldwide, almost 200 are known to occur in Madagascar. The island is 300 miles east of Mozambique across the Mozambique Channel and has a coastline of 3,000 miles.

I had a great time throughout the entire tour. Of course, the team I was with had a significant impact on this experience, but also it was mainly the effort, support, and warm and friendly nature of our tour guide, that made me feel safe and happy. Our guide supported us in every aspect, protected us, and was always very patient and positive. I will miss both him and the whole tour team greatly. I think the tour program was well organized, but perhaps adding Baobab Avenue and Tsingy could make it even better :) By the way, the Manja hotel could maybe be replaced with a better one; I was satisfied with the other hotels.

The best part of the trip was the service provided by our guide and driver - both were outstanding in their particular skills. I cannot say the tour was outstanding but I enjoyed learning and seeing a country new to me.
