The village is officially classified as one of France's most beautiful; you will see why as you stroll through the town's narrow streets lined with picturesque houses with wood-paneled facades. After lunch, join an included tour to the town of Giverny, where Claude Monet resided from 1883 until his death in 1926. Visit the beautiful gardens and charming stone farmhouse where he lived and worked; see the water garden with the recognizable Japanese bridge, water lilies, wisteria and azaleas that inspired many of his masterpieces.† Dinner is served on board. Spend the afternoon in the medieval city of Rouen, preeminent capital of Normandy. Begin with a walking tour through the center of Old Town, where you see the spectacular Gothic Notre Dame Cathedral, often painted by Claude Monet, and the famous Gros Horloge, a 16th-century astronomical clock. As you walk among the half-timbered storybook buildings, allow yourself to be transported back through time; see the 14th-century courthouse where Joan of Arc was sentenced to death and the nearby Market Square where she was martyred.
Use your free time to discover more of Rouen or visit one of its museums of art or antiquities. Dine on board or at a sidewalk café. Your ship remains docked overnight. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After breakfast, begin your full-day tour to the historic beaches of Normandy. Drive past Gold Beach, Courseulles sur Mer and Juno Beach on your way to visit such World War II landmarks as Omaha Beach, the American Military Cemetery and Arromanches Debarkment D-Day Museum. Alternatively, you may take a tour of Bayeaux, where you can admire the magnificent tapestry that chronicles the pre–Battle of Hastings events. Afterward, continue to Normandy's coast and enjoy some free time at Juno Beach after your visit to the museum; then visit the Pegasus Museum. We've enjoyed excellent service from several different Affordable Tours agents over the years, but Jim Leary has been the best by far. He is knowledgeable, courteous, professional, and always promptly attentive in responding to our inquiries and requests. We will continue to seek out his assistance with our travel needs and recommend him to our friends and family members without reservation.
Viking River Cruises are first rate. The onboard staff are all friendly and professional. We haven't met one yet that we thought was anything else but that. Itineraries are very interesting and the local tour guides really enhance any trip.
Viking gives you the absolute best for your money. The food, the accommodations and especially the staff are exceptional in every way.
The Viking travel experience was truly first class in the boat, the stateroom, the service and the people. They were excellent in every aspect of making the vacation comfortable.
The Viking River Cruise met all expectations. The trip was enjoyable and the Viking staff was tremendous
A few trips listed as easy within the Vikibg tour were not easy walking
This was our second Viking cruise. We chose them again because they exceeded our expectations on our first cruise.
Affordable tours did a great job in booking our Viking cruise, Hue was very responsive to my questions. I highly recommend her. We were offered $300 per person for booking with Affordable tours on Viking cruises. However Viking charges a hefty percentage for proceess it, the $600 for the two of us should have amounted to 571 euros [exchange rate was 1.05 euros to one dollar]. Viking discounted the value of the $600 to only 518 euros which is pretty significant.
Another superb Viking River Cruise experience. As advertised with usual level of service by the staff. Only issue was a change in optional excursions that was not communicated before departure.
We had a great trip on the Viking Delling (Avignon to Lyon). This is a trip that any wine lover will enjoy. Lot's of opportunities to visit wineries (and even an olive farm) and learn more about wine along the way on the day tours. Staff on board ship are incredible. Everything is first class.
Always enjoy traveling with Viking.
Pricy with limited entertainment but food and excursions were outstanding.
We thoroughly enjoyed our Viking Rhine River Cruise.
Staff was wonderful. Accommodations excellent. Plane connections worked except for return flight. Flight was cancelled and I received no notification about this.
