River Cruise Itinerary

From exotic Budapest, “Queen of the Danube,” to imperial Vienna, “City of Waltzes,” to the sky-high spires of Cologne’s Gothic cathedral—centuries of intriguing history and culture unfold before your eyes. The Melk Abbey’s great library overlooking the Danube and the Würzburg Residence’s soaring ceiling fresco by Tiepolo will leave you mesmerized. And throughout your journey, tantalize your senses with exclusive wine, apricot brandy and beer tastings, along with regional culinary delicacies. Discover the grand sweep of history and the dynamic present along legendary rivers on a magnificent journey that gives you the best of Europe’s great treasures as well as off-the-beaten-path gems.

  1. Day 1
    Budapest (Embark)
    Thu, Oct 12, 2023
Arrive at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport. If your cruise package includes a group arrival transfer or if you have purchased a private arrival transfer, you will be greeted by a Uniworld representative and transferred to the ship.
    Meals: Dinner
  2. Day 2
    Budapest
    Fri, Oct 13, 2023
Called the “Queen of the Danube,” in part because of the way the city hugs the banks of the river, Budapest is an enchanting city that vibrantly mixes East and West, medieval and modern. Made up of two parts— Buda (the hills) and Pest (the flatlands)—and divided by the Danube, Hungary’s capital presents an array of architectural styles that reveal its long and varied history. You’ll have two enticing ways to experience the city—a panoramic guided tour aboard a motorcoach with a visit to the Parliament, or discover the Budapest that locals love on a special walking tour of the city’s most important landmarks.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  3. Day 3
    Cruising the Danube River, Vienna
    Sat, Oct 14, 2023
Today is your day to relax onboard, enjoying the luxuries of your river cruise ship while soaking in the spectacular scenery all around you as your ship heads for Vienna. Come up to the Sun Deck to admire the city’s landmarks strung along the riverbanks.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  4. Day 4
    Vienna
    Sun, Oct 15, 2023
Vienna is a cultural treasure trove revered for its art and music (and sinfully rich pastries). Begin your day at the Vienna Art History Museum, then embark on a tour of the city's imperial highlights.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  5. Day 5
Cruising the Wachau Valley, Weissenkirchen (Melk)
    Mon, Oct 16, 2023
Awaken to the spectacular scenery of the Wachau Valley, one of the most beautiful stretches of river landscape in all of Europe. Named for its white church, Weissenkirchen may very well be the prettiest village in the Wachau Valley. A local expert will show you around and introduce you to some regional delicacies, including a wine tasting. Prefer to go for baroque? Visit the 900-year-old Melk Abbey and its extraordinarily opulent library. Later, you can stretch your legs with a vineyard hike.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  6. Day 6
    Passau
    Tue, Oct 17, 2023
Just before reaching Passau, the ship will pass through the famous Schlögener Schlinge—a “gooseneck” or hairpin turn in the Danube. Located at the confluence of three rivers—the Danube, Inn and Ilz— Passau is well known for its ornate baroque cathedral. Today, the city is unusually well preserved, having been spared the brunt of Allied bombing during WWII, as you’ll see on your walking tour.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  7. Day 7
    Regensburg
    Wed, Oct 18, 2023
Bavaria’s first capital, Regensburg, owes its impressive historical lineage and rich architectural heritage to 600 years as a Free Imperial City, a fact recognized by UNESCO in 2006. Today, you’ll discover how the beautifully preserved medieval city coexists with a vibrant modern urban center.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  8. Day 8
    Nuremberg
    Thu, Oct 19, 2023
Arrive in the archetypal medieval German city of Nuremberg. Nuremberg is justifiably famous for its gingerbread and pocket watches, and it was also the site of some key moments in 20th-century history. You’ll choose between two memorable ways of exploring this exceptional city. You can join a tour of the pencil manufacturer Faber-Castell's factory and expansive headquarters, or you can accompany a local expert to the city’s most important WWII sites, including the enormous Nazi Party Rally Grounds—the actual site of the Nazi Party rallies.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  9. Day 9
    Bamberg
    Fri, Oct 20, 2023
Your floating boutique hotel takes you to Bamberg today, a well-preserved town that offers a fascinating glimpse of medieval times. Explore the city on foot or opt to head deeper into the Franconian countryside to experience an authentic slice of rural life—including a tractor ride. Like Rome, the city is built on seven hills—but in Bamberg, a church tops each one.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  10. Day 10
    Würzburg (Rothenburg)
    Sat, Oct 21, 2023
Your ship will dock in the charming Franconian town of Würzburg, where you can visit the extraordinary Würzburg Residence, one of the most opulent baroque palaces in Europe.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  11. Day 11
    Wertheim
    Sun, Oct 22, 2023
After today, you may never eat a pretzel again without thinking of the town of Wertheim. You’ll meet one of Germany’s best pretzel makers, as well as the owner of a historic wine estate. If you’re more in the mood for a scenic bike ride, you are welcome to do that as well.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  12. Day 12
    Frankfurt (Heidelberg)
    Mon, Oct 23, 2023
Frankfurt is known as the “Mainhattan” of Europe due to its profusion of bankers and soaring skyscrapers, which coexist with the city’s traditional Old Town architecture. Choose a brief tour that gives you an overview of this major European financial and trade center. Alternatively, visit romantic Heidelberg and its Renaissance castle.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  13. Day 13
    Rüdesheim
    Tue, Oct 24, 2023
Experience Germany’s fabled Rheingau in one of two ways today. Take in spectacular views of the region’s famous vineyards from the perspective of an aerial cable car, or venture within an atmospheric medieval monastery and taste the Rieslings made on site. The town is best known for its narrow avenue of shops and wine bars called the Drosselgasse. Experience the most spectacular scenery on the Rhine later in the afternoon as you cruise past the famous Middle Rhine Valley.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  14. Day 14
    Cologne
    Wed, Oct 25, 2023
Enjoy a delightful tour of Cologne’s Old Town, where three medieval gates remain standing, as does the old city hall with its stunning Renaissance façade. Wander through the historical center and take in its charming atmosphere and narrow alleyways flanked by old houses. No matter how you choose to explore Old Town, you’ll also have ample free time to explore the city on your own.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  15. Day 15
    Amsterdam
    Thu, Oct 26, 2023
Enjoy the luxury of a full day in the “Venice of the North,” starting with a delightful tour of the Rijksmuseum. Afterwards, explore the city's canals by boat.
    Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  16. Day 16
    Amsterdam (Disembark)
    Fri, Oct 27, 2023
Disembark the ship. If your cruise package includes a group departure transfer or if you have purchased a private departure transfer, you will be transferred to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol for your flight home.
    Meals: Breakfast

Health and Safety Protocols for Uniworld

Uniworld approaches every cruise with that same thorough diligence. Stringent security and sanitation protocols onboard our ships are nothing new to us. They not only remain top priorities but are being escalated as we face the current challenge. As more information is provided from Cruise Line International Association (CLIA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) Uniworld will look to adopt their health and safety recommendations and continue to update for your added peace of mind.

SAFETY & SECURITY PROTOCOLS

  • All outside doors and access to the interior of the ships are locked when docked. Only registered guests can access the ship using a key card.
  • All guests and luggage are verified against the manifest at check-in.
  • Guests have 24/7 access to the front desk.
  • Key card scanners with facial recognition are utilized at the gangway.
  • Cameras are present at the entrance of the ship and in public areas, and are monitored by the reception staff.
  • Trained security staff are posted at the gangway 24 hours a day.
  • Ships are patrolled by trained staff 24/7.
  • All deliveries are thoroughly inspected before being brought onboard.

HEALTH & SANITATION PROTOCOLS

PLEASE NOTE: While Uniworld believes these protocols to be the appropriate steps in protecting the wellbeing of guests and crew, they will continue to evaluate and make changes if they are deemed to be ineffective or if they negatively impact the wellbeing of guests and crew. Uniworld is actively reviewing additional health and sanitation steps and will add them to these protocols upon approval.

GENERAL MEASURES:

  • All guests must complete a health screening prior to embarkation.
  • Gloves, face masks and small bottles of hand sanitizer will be readily available for each guest.
  • All guests and crew are required to sanitize their hands when entering public spaces, when coming back onboard the ship each day, and before each meal.
  • Housekeeping staff disinfect all public area touch points and hot spots throughout the day, including all handrails and door handles.
  • Fruits, cookies, chips, nuts, candies or other treats are now served to individual guests by the crew only. These treats are no longer available for self-service.
  • Disinfected wipes are available throughout the ship, including at coffee stations and in the public toilets.
  • Any onboard payments are processed using a contactless payment method and credit card machines will be wiped after each pin entry.
  • All coffee table books, magazines and brochures have been removed from public use. Guests will be able to access these reading materials via their complimentary PressReader app on their mobile devices.
  • Crew wash their hands frequently when handling guest luggage. Disembarkation luggage is kept separate from embarkation luggage to avoid cross-contamination.

ONBOARD DINING:

  • All meals are now served by culinary and waitstaff, with no self-service allowed during buffets.
  • All restaurant dining now has reserved seating, with guests at the same table, with the same people, each day.
  • To limit the total number of guests in a restaurant at a time, they have introduced two seating times for each meal.
  • Items that are usually shared, like bread and butter, are now served to each person individually.
  • All touch points, like chairs and salt and pepper shakers, are immediately disinfected after each seating.

STATEROOMS & SUITES:

  • All staterooms and suites are thoroughly cleaned on a daily basis.
  • All air-conditioning filters are cleaned and disinfected on each embarkation day before rooming takes place.
  • Umbrellas are now only available in rooms for individual use, with no shared umbrella stands in public areas.
  • In-room chocolate candy bowls are replaced at the end/beginning of each cruise.

EXCURSIONS:

  • All buses are cleaned and wiped with disinfectant before each use.
  • Face masks are also available on the buses, in addition to the staterooms.
  • Vox boxes are sanitized prior to embarkation and after each excursion.

CREW:

  • All crew receives professional health and hygiene training (HACCP) by an external consultant before each ship begins its sailing season, including training on how to look for symptoms.
  • All crew strictly adhere to social distancing requirements.
  • All crew undergo regular health screenings and are quarantined immediately if symptoms are present.
  • Hand sanitizer is readably available and mandated for use in all crew areas.
  • Crew quarters, public and private, are sanitized regularly.
  • All crew meals are served, with no self-service allowed.

Uniworld was the first cruise to Eastern Europe since Covid shut everything down in 2019. That means there were a few hiccups, but the staff did the very best they could with what they were dealt.

This was my fourth river cruise with Uniworld. I cannot imagine taking a trip with any other company. Fantastic!

Uniworld is a five star River Cruise operator that is a complete experience including cultural aspects, Zagat dining and escorted tours. The service is impeccable and the dinners are also paired with Regional wines. The all inclusive aspect insures that all amenities are included, including alcoholic beverages. I highly recommend this river cruise operator.

River cruises in Europe with Uniworld we can say with confidence that Uniwold's high quality of service is consistant. We highly recommend Uniworld.

This trip was way beyond my expectations in terms of quality and service.
