After breakfast, check out of your hotel. Often referred to as "The Big Easy,” the city of New Orleans radiates charm and is renowned for its Southern hospitality. Steeped in a proud musical tradition, some of the finest jazz and blues musicians can be seen performing each night at the many historic venues found throughout the city. New Orleans is also home to the oldest continuously operating streetcar line in the world, and its four classic lines offer a convenient way to explore the city's historic homes, parks and museums, which include the New Orleans Museum of Art and the National WWII Museum.
The capital of Louisiana, Baton Rouge paints a historic picture on the eastern bank of the Mississippi. Its early success was due to its flood-free location upon the first natural bluff north of The Delta. French explorer Pierre Le Moyne, Sieur d'Iberville, named the city after a red-hued pole that marked the area's tribal hunting grounds. Its cultural diversity-from its Cajun and Creole music and cuisine to its arts offerings-reflects the European immigrant settlers and the African people brought as slaves. The city boasts the tallest capitol building in the United States. Embark your ship and settle into your stateroom.
After breakfast, disembark your ship. Red Wing is known for its Red Wing Shoes, which produced footwear for soldiers in both world wars. The city was named after a Sioux chief whose red-dyed swan wing indicated his rank. The first settlers-many from New England-arrived in the mid-1800s. German, Irish and Scandinavian immigrants followed, bringing skills in tanning, shoemaking, pottery and more. The city boasts a diversity of legacies, including Red Wing Stoneware and Pottery, founded in 1877 as the nation's first commercial potter. Today, Red Wing enjoys a place in the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Arrive and check in to your hotel. St. Paul is the capital of Minnesota and one of the state's oldest cities. Situated on a series of bluffs overlooking a deep S-shaped bend in the Mississippi River, it forms the "Twin Cities” with neighboring Minneapolis. The city has long been an important commercial center, first for furs during the early 19th century, then later for livestock and meatpacking after the development of the railroad. St. Paul boasts several historic neighborhoods and is home to Summit Avenue, the longest preserved street of Victorian-era buildings in the US.

Enjoy fresh air in your stateroom, knowing that all staterooms on Viking river ships feature independent air handling units that do not share air with other areas of the ship. Take comfort in knowing that the air in the public areas of your ship has also been purified with new short-wavelength ultraviolet (UV-C) lights and high-density filters, which kill 99.99% of all airborne viruses and bacteria.
While every precaution can reduce the risk of illness, we are also prepared for that outcome. Each of our vessels has always had a state-of-the-art Medical Center; those facilities have now been upgraded with more specialized equipment. We have also launched a new 24/7 hotline staffed by doctors, specifically for our river cruises.
Rest assured that the surfaces on your ship will be cleaned and sanitized continuously with daily scheduled deep cleanings. You will notice more hand sanitization stations throughout your ship. And on our ocean and expedition ships, we are using new sanitization robots that utilize UV-C light to treat surfaces in guest and crew public areas—an industry first.
Dining & Entertainment
On your ship, you can expect spacious, airy public areas and abundant options for al fresco dining. Also, on our ocean voyages, as always, you can enjoy complimentary 24-hour room service. Now, more options for spaced seating in all dining venues will allow for physical distancing; there will be additional table service at all bars and lounges; and new capabilities will allow you to watch more live events and enriching content through your in-room entertainment system.
Physical Distancing & Face Masks
Public health experts agree that proper physical distancing and the use of face masks are effective in helping slow the spread of COVID-19 and other illnesses. Face masks are optional while moving about the ship. Please note: Viking’s Medical Team continually monitors conditions and may deem face masks to be necessary while moving about the ship, based on conditions at the time of travel. While ashore, guests will need to comply with any local guidelines for face masks and physical distancing. Face masks continue to be required for all crew.
Local Partner Training
As part of the Viking Health & Safety Program, we will regularly train every local partner, including motor coach drivers and tour guides. While ashore, Viking’s measures will meet or exceed local guidelines for social distancing and other precautions.
This was my 7th trip with Viking. They always go above and beyond
As always Viking went over and above expectations! Book it you won't regret it!
Viking is a first class river cruise operator. They specialize in customer service and strive for satisfaction. The food and drink are over the top and always top quality. We were blown away when the cruise ended, a ship representative escorted us to the airport and remained with us until we entered airport security. We certainly will cruise again with Viking.
A very enjoyable experience.
Viking does a wonderful job. They really take good care of their guests!
Viking did an excellent job. The trip was great.
Viking River Cruises was first class all the way. The staff, food, accommodations, tours, etc. were all great.
Travel agent Soazeg Vadel very supportive.
Tour behind the previous Iron Curtain¦..something I never thought would be possible. Sobering historical tours. Beautiful landscape. Wonderful art
I was not made aware of the optional tours in Paris with the exception of the Montmartre tour.
We were on the Viking Torgil. It was exceptional. The food was excellent and the ship/stateroom were immaculate. The staff, as always were extremely helpful. With Viking there is never a problem, as any issue that comes up is an opportunity for them to find a solution. This was our second tour with Viking. There will be more. We added on the extension in Lisbon. The hotel was great, as was the staff. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Trip was wonderful. Food great, they catered to all my needs.
The South of France is beautiful at any time but with the lavender fields blooming, this time of the year is amazing.
The cabin was smaller than what we expected based on previous cruises with other operators. The staff was great. The included tours were average. We would have liked more walking tours but realize that would be difficult in large cities. We thought the Prague walking tour was poor. The Regent Hotel in Berlin was great. Nice room and convenient location. The Hilton in Prague was ok. The room setup was had little storage space, and the bathroom was small with no space around the sink for toiletries. The modern decor was aesthetically pleasing, but not very functional.

We had a wonderful trip. Our Viking River cruise was one of our best cruises ever. We did a pre-extension in Paris and a post-extension in Zurich. The pre and the post took the trip from "very good" to "best ever".
