Spend 3 nights in Cairo, then take a 7-night roundtrip Luxor Nile River Cruise, followed by 1 night in Cairo.
- Day 1Mon, Nov 10, 2025CAIRO - LUXOR - EMBARKATION. After checking out of the hotel, take a morning flight south to Luxor'''formerly known as Thebes, the capital city of the New Kingdom of Upper Egypt. Luxor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to two astonishing temples'''Karnak and Luxor. First, explore the Temple of Karnak, the largest religious complex in Egypt and one of the largest in the world, covering about 200 acres in a vast network of columns, hieroglyphics, obelisks, sphinxes and colossi'''even a lake. The Hypostyle Hall is a great architectural marvel and filled with its roof blocks, supported by colossal 134 columns standing at 70 feet high, with 12 larger columns standing at 80 feet high lining the central aisle. It is still the largest room of any religious building in the world. Then be welcomed aboard your luxurious river cruise ship to begin your Nile River Valley cruise. Later this afternoon, you will visit the Temple of Luxor, constructed over hundreds of years by Amenhotep III, Ramses II, Tutankhamun and other pharaohs. After your visit, continue to experience Egyptian magic with a traditional folkloric-style belly dance on board the AmaDahlia. (B, L, D)
- Day 2Tue, Nov 11, 2025LUXOR - EDFU. Begin the day with a visit to the Valley of Queens, home to the mummified remains of more than 30 queens and princesses, including Nefertari'''s Tomb, where you'''ll enjoy a private tour. Next, visit the tombs of ancient Egypt in the Valley of the Kings ''' one of the most famous archeological sites in the world. The spectacular rock-cut tombs located on the west bank of Luxor include that of the enigmatic King Tutankhamun, whose mummified remains are still here on display. Afterwards, go to Deir el-Bahri to see the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of Egypt'''s most successful pharaohs and the country'''s first female ruler. Your day'''s adventure concludes with an up-close view of the Colossi of Memnon ''' two gigantic statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Once back on board your ship, relax on the Upper Deck and take in the amazing scenery or join the chef at an informal cooking class. (B, L, D). . Note: As of spring 2024, Queen Nefertari'''s Tomb has been temporarily closed with no official reopening date. Until reopening, the equally impressive Seti 1 tomb will be visited as an alternative.
- Day 3Wed, Nov 12, 2025EDFU. The city of Edfu is best known for one of Egypt'''s most remarkably preserved temples, dedicated to Horus, the falcon-headed god. Built in 230 BC, it is the second-largest temple in Egypt and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with walls that display compelling details about the religion and language of the country'''s Greco-Roman period. After visiting Edfu, relax on board and take in the Nile River'''s timeless landscapes as the ship continues onward to Aswan. (B, L, D)
- Day 4Thu, Nov 13, 2025ASWAN. Enjoy free time in Aswan or go on an optional excursion to Abu Simbel (must be prebooked). If you purchased the optional excursion, enjoy an early morning flight over Lake Nasser to the more than 3,000-year-old Abu Simbel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dedicated to Ramses II, one of the most active of pharaohs, along with the smaller temple dedicated to his chief wife Queen Nefertari. The front of the main temple has four gargantuan statues of Ramses II on his throne, each measuring nearly 70 feet high and discovered half buried in sand in 1813. Later in the afternoon, take a peaceful ride in a felucca, a traditional Egyptian sailboat, around beautiful Elephantine Island, which locals say is the home to legendary Egyptian god Khnumo. Cap the day off with an optional late afternoon tea at the historic Old Cataract Hotel, a 19th-century Victorian Palace crafted in rose granite. Delight in an authentic '''high tea''' experience and revel in the stunning views overlooking the Nile and Elephantine Island. After dinner tonight, continue to experience Egyptian magic with a traditional folkloric-style belly dance on board your ship. (B, L, D). . *Guests can reserve the optional tour to Abu Simbel at time of booking your Nile adventure
- Day 5Fri, Nov 14, 2025ASWAN - ESNA. Board a motorboat and cruise to the UNESCO-designated Philae Temple complex, boasting some of the most stunningly restored and preserved hieroglyphs in Egypt. It was constructed between 380 BC and 362 BC and dedicated to the goddess Isis, the wife of Osiris and mother of Horus. Next head to a colorful Nubian village on Hisa Island. Meet the warm and friendly Nubian people who will welcome you to their village. During the afternoon, cruise to the Great Temple of Kom Ombo, where its soaring columns dramatically rise above the Nile River. Unique in Egypt, this temple is dedicated to two gods ''' the crocodile god, Sobek, sitting on the right; and the falcon-headed Haroeris, '''The Good Doctor.''' After visiting Kom Ombo, relax on board and take in the Nile River'''s timeless landscapes as the ship continues onward to Luxor. In the evening, join your crew outside in a celebration of local customs with the chance to don a Galabeya, traditional Egyptian attire, and toast to the rich culture and history of the Nile River Valley. (B, L, D)
- Day 6Sat, Nov 15, 2025ESNA - LUXOR. Spend a morning of scenic cruising along the glistening Nile River. Relax on the Sun Deck as you cruise from Esna back to Luxor. First, explore the Temple of Karnak, the largest religious complex in Egypt and one of the largest in the world, covering about 200 acres in a vast network of columns, hieroglyphics, obelisks, sphinxes and colossi ''' even a lake is on the grounds. The Hypostyle Hall is a great architectural marvel and filled with its roof blocks, supported by colossal 134 columns standing at 70 feet high, with 12 larger columns standing at 80 feet high lining the central aisle. This hall is still the largest room of any religious building in the world. After visiting the temple, journey to a museum and discover the art of papyrus making. Learn how the ancient Egyptians used this special plant that flourished in the Egyptian Delta and Nile River Valley. Made from the aquatic papyrus plant, also known as paper plant, this unique writing material served many purposes in ancient times from sails, cloth, food and especially paper for important documents and texts. Afterwards, you will visit the Temple of Luxor, constructed over hundreds of years by Amenhotep III, Ramses II, Tutankhamun and other pharaohs. You then have the option of heading back to the ship to relax or visiting the colorful Luxor Market, where you can find eye-catching piles of spices, jewelry and clothing as well as irresistible smells of incense and perfumes. (B, L, D)
- Day 7Sun, Nov 16, 2025LUXOR - QENA - LUXOR. Set sail to Qena to explore its ancient Egyptian heritage. You'''ll go to Dendara to visit the best-preserved temple in Egypt, the Temple of Hathor ''' the Goddess of Love, to whom the powers of joy, feminine love and motherhood were attributed. The temple was built by Ptolemy and a group of Romans who worshipped her; so don'''t miss the back of the temple where there is a relief depicting Cleopatra with Caesarion, her son by Julius Caesar, the Roman Emperor who brought us the months of July and August. Following your visit here, sail back to Luxor. (B, L, D)
- Day 8Mon, Nov 17, 2025LUXOR - DISEMBARKATION - CAIRO. Disembark the ship in Luxor and fly back to Cairo where you will be taken to the Abdeen Presidential Palace, considered one of the most luxurious palaces in the world. The palace consists of multiple museums, including the Silver Museum; the Arms Museum; the Royal Family Museum; a Presidential Gifts Museum and a Historical Documents Museum, which is a relatively new addition. It is also one of the official residences and places of work for the President of Egypt. Afterwards, be treated to a very special lunch at the palace. Questions & Answers Ask A Question
Question: Will the day-by-day itinerary change?
Question: In what language is the river cruise conducted?
Secrets of Egypt & the Nile Cruise provides an exceptional experience. Worth Every penny! Additionally Egypt is very SAFE with extra security measures provided. The Cruise Director provided good communication on the agenda for the day. The Egyptologist that is with the group at all times provided exceptional historic details adding much to the experience. I recommend this tour to those wishing to explore Egypt!
Gems of Southeast Europe from Giurgiu to Budapest, November, 2024. My booking included a pre cruise of 2 nights in Bucharest and 2 nights in Brasov. Dracula's castle was a highlight. The local guide explained how the legend followed Vlad's impailment of captives. The Ama Magna was magnificent. It was gorgeously decorated with Christmas ornaments. Many of the crew were warm and welcoming, especially the cruise director, Nemanja. A few were professional, but not like family, an Ama selling point. The on board entertainment was the best I have seen. Although the ship captain said that it didn't matter which side of the ship my cabin faced, this was inaccurate. During the high season that may be true, but not during the off season, as we never saw any other cruise ships. As I had previously researched Northbound, the starboard cabins were much better, as almost the entire cruise they faced the water, not the pier. Category AA cabins were poorly designed as there was almost no storage space for storing clothing and other small, miscellaneous items. They had a few small, open shelves. When I paid 490 Euros for 6 nights upgrade to category AS, I ended up on the port side. AMA's security policies are entirely too strict. No ebikes are allowed due to liability issues, despite signed waivers. Once I was locked out on my balcony as it has a feature not allowing outside opening, and no one warned me. One time my key card failed to open the cabin door. Same issue with a neighbor cabin. The Apple computer was nearly useless as Ama does not allow peripheral devices to be accessed on it. The smart TV provided nearly the same features.
Just about everything was great. Staff was exceeding going out of their way to please. Loved the blue night light in the bathroom. I don't have a broad taste pallet. Picked almost all of the Chefs recommendations. They were very good. Only minor issues. The duvet was too warm for us. They cordially removed and left sheet only. I don't like the oversized square pillows. They did not have any others. We extended our trip on our own to Luxembourg and Belgium. Embarking at Wasserbillig. We took the train to Luxembourg central station. All public transportation is free in the country of Luxembourg. Taxi would have been over $100. The staff was great about taking our suitcases for the short walk to the station. It's a short walk away. But, UPHILL.! We made the mistake of having the staff take our suitcases up the first steps. Then we found out we had to go to the other side. Taking our suitcases down the steps and fortunately up a ramp on the other side.
Our AMAWaterways cruise manager, was informative, extremely engaging, and very welcoming and helpful. The boat was beautiful and service was impeccable.
This was our seventh river cruise with AmaWaterways, so we are definitely pleased with every aspect of the experience they provide.
The excursions and local guides were excellent and AMA staff was professional and accomodative. We were disappointed by the quality of the food based on our past pre-COVID experiences with AMA. Not sure we would book another trip on AMA.
Ama did an amazing job with the cruise. The ship crew and tour director were exceptional. It was the best value cruise we have taken. We were disappointed with two of the excursions. The Paris city tour, included in the extension, was two hours of walking around and looking at buildings with no real significance. It ended with a light show in a warehouse, which gave me vertigo and I lasted five minutes. People want to see the real sights. We would have rather spent two hours riding past historical structures. We signed up for the American invasion beaches tour. We only saw Omaha Beach, at high tide, and did not see Utah Beach. Instead we were taken to a little tourist village, in the British section.
Great service on AMA
This was our sixth trip with AmaWaterways and we've already booked our seventh, so they must be doing something right!
The Cruise was very enjoyable. The itinerary, service and the staff was excellent. I would take an Amawaterways cruise again.
Fantastic trip. AMA Waterways staff was excellent! I would highly recommend this trip and this company
Cruise manager very professional and responsible. Cruise team very accommodating. Cabin, while compact on a cruise ship, had all we needed.
This company's standards are great as well as their products. There were extra entertainment in 3 of the 7 nights and each one was different and a big hit. The captains dinner was quite delightful because we saw a fun side of our captain and truly understand his job.
We are returning passengers on AmaWaterways river cruises having just completed our 9th cruise. We have thoroughly enjoyed each cruise with AmaWaterways and we will certainly cruise with them again. They are wonderful hosts and their treatment of guests is excellent from ship Captain to cabin attendants. Their performance has always exceeded our expectations. Our last cruise was marred with unfortunate strikes in France but AmaWaterways and the Cruise Manager scrambled to provide a pleasant cruise experience. The mark of a true customer-oriented high quality organization is how they perform in adversity and AmaWaterways performed brilliantly to provide a very positive and enjoyable experience!
Our Christmas Markets on the Danube cruise was fabulous with AMAWaterways. We did Christmas Markets on the Rhine with AMAWaterways in 2014 and loved it. So, we had to do the Danube. Both cruises will get you and your family in the mood for Christmas with beautiful sites, Christmas lights, and tremendous markets. If I could afford it, I would do both again!!!
