On this Best of Italy & Sicily tour, you'll experience some of Italy's and Sicily's most popular cities and historic sights, including Rome, Florence, Venice, Assisi, Pompeii, Sorrento coast, and Taormina. You'll also enjoy an overnight ferry cruise from Naples to Sicily. Tour highlights include Agrigento, where you'll see ancient Greek structures that have survived for 2,400 years! And in Taormina, you'll visit the 3rd-century BC Greek Theater, the second largest of its kind in Sicily. Photos and words cannot adequately capture these sights—you must visit them in person! Your time on Sorrento coast includes a visit to the Isle of Capri with a jetfoil ride across the Bay of Naples and a funicular ride to Capri village. If art is your focus, you'll be delighted by Michelangelo's David in Florence and his ceiling paintings in the Sistine Chapel in Rome, which you'll also see on this tour. Watch glassblowers in action as they create their beautiful art in Venice. Or if historical churches interest you, you're sure to be delighted by the 12th-century Norman Cathedral in Monreale, famous for its 50,000 square feet of precious byzantine mosaics; St. Peter's Basilica in Rome; the 13th-century Basilica of St. Francis in Assisi, where St. Francis is buried; Ravenna's 6th-century Basilica of St. Apollinaris in Classe, famous for its mosaics; and more. These are just a few of the many highlights on this Best of Italy & Sicily tour. The Italy/Sicily Globus tour was excellent! We enjoyed every minute. It was very fast paced, and crowded in Italy, most likely due to the terrorism threats in France. We felt very safe in Italy with the high presence of police and military everywhere we travelled. We would have preferred a better class of dining experience. The meals were fine, but not the best tables (back rooms that were overly crowded and difficult to carry on conversations with new friends) instead of the terrace tables or tables with a view of the sea. The pace of the meals seemed way too rapid. We would have preferred a great location and a 2-3 hr meal. To get the better tables, we were able to request them ourselves and enjoy a leisurely paced european style meal at most lunches, but not the dinners and/or optional meals we purchases thru Globus. A Shame! Some of the hotels didn't seem 'first class' to us, while others were a pleasure to enjoy.
at times a little rushed
Our hotel rooms were very beautiful. The meals were wonderful and in very nice restaurants. Our last day of touring was canceled because of a large fire on the road to our destination. That was a disappointment. However that is not your fault or the fault of Globus. There was no other alternate route. The weather was hotter and there was more walking than we expected. However that helped us keep our weight down after such great meals.
Only 2 hotels were what I consider a little less than the rest (Assisi being one but can't remember the other hotel). All other hotels exceeded my expectations and I would classify them as 4 star. Other two hotels were very old and not as modern but they were very clean and comfortable.
I would like to say that I had the trip of a lifetime! I waited 18 years to get to go on this trip, and I did a lot of research to find just the right tour. Affordable Tours included both ALL of Italy AND Sicily, which is exactly what I wanted to do (my dad Napolitano and my mom Siciliana). I am retired, but have been a professional photographer, and the pics I got have received rave reviews, which really made me extremely happy. My photo album on Snapfish will be incredible! I have told many people after I returned that if I were to die this day, my life has been complete!!! And, since it was my birthday the day we toured Rome, thank you, Affordable Tours, for the BEST birthday of my life! (Plus, our local guide on that day - Simone - was fabulous and very learned, AND SIMPLY GORGEOUS!) He announced it was my birthday to the entire crowd at the Colisseum! What a day! What a trip! THANK YOU AGAIN!!!
We had a fabulous tour director. She was organized and efficient. She was friendly and treated everyone kindly. She went out -of her way to assure we all had the best of experiences. She was very knowledgeable and was a joy to learn from about each city we visited. The tour director far surpassed my expectations. She is a gem, and the absolute best tour guide i have ever had. I would love to take another trip with her as our guide. Globus is blessed to have such a wonderful guide. The driver was an excellent driver. He didn't talk to us, but he always smiled. He also was efficient to always have our luggage to our rooms quickly. They worked so well together and laughed often which was also a plus to the trip.
Great trip with Globus! Great communication and service from Affordable Tours. Thanks for the memorable experience. Much appreciated.
