Tour Itinerary

Attend a special Halloween costume party in an authentic Gothic castle, take a peek into the ruins of Dracula’s castle, explore medieval towns including the Old World cities of Bran and Bucharest, learn the true story of the infamous Vlad the Impaler.

Transylvania. The name itself is enough to send an icy chill down the spine of even the most fearless adventurer. Now imagine being there, in person, when the clock clangs midnight… on Halloween! At odds with its creeptacular reputation, Romania ranks as one of Europe's most charming and underexplored regions, beguiling visitors with its stunning Gothic architecture, enveloping forests, and friendly people. But as idyllic as it is by day, the real fun happens at night — particularly Halloween, when we'll treat you to a costume party in an authentic castle. Think you're not afraid of the dark? You will be.

Day 1: Bucharest
Arrive at any time.
Activity: Your opportunity to meet your CEO and fellow travellers, and learn more about your tour. Opt to join the group for a local meal afterwards. Don't forget to see the notice in the lobby (or ask reception) for the official time and place to meet up with the group.
Accommodation: Hotel Ibis Bucharest Palatul Parlamentului (or similar)

Day 2: Bucharest/Sibiu
Visit the ruins of Dracula's Poenari Castle, and stunning Curtea de Arges Monastery en route to Sibiu. Enjoy an orientation walk upon arrival. Opt to visit the art-focused Brukenthal Museum.
Transport: Stop at Poenari Castle and Curtea De Arges Monestary en route.
Activity: Stop in for a wander around the Curtea de Arges Monastery - an elaborate Byzantine style cathedral decorated with frescoes and elaborate inscriptions. It's worth taking the time to learn about the eerie folklore surrounding the construction of the cathedral before your visit.
Activity: The ruins of the Poenari Castle was once one of Vlad the Impaler's main fortresses. Vlad III, now often known as Dracula, was known for being particularly cruel, impaling his enemies. He is estimated to have killed over 10,000 people. The only way to reach the castle is to walk up over 1,400 steps. A third of the castle collapsed down the mountainside in 1888, but the walls and two towers still remain, one of which is said to be where Vlad's first wife threw herself from in order to avoid being captured by the Turks.
Activity: Enjoy a brief walk with your CEO. He/she will give you some tips on finding things like supermarkets, main squares, and ATMs. For more specific or in-depth information, an official guided tour is recommended.

By John M on Mar 11, 2018

The Japan vacation was better than I expected!!!! It was an active "moving" trip, which I truly enjoyed. I've done "coach tours" where you sit on the bus and they take you -- this experience was "hands on" riding the buses, trains and running through the streets -- it was amazing !!!!! We got the full feel of Japan and the people. This trip is not for the weak or slow pace crowd - you drag your luggage through the streets, up and down stairs --- it was truly exciting and exhilarating. G adventures has a fan for life. The instructions and assistance was outstanding -- Great job - Steve (AffordableTours.com) was outstanding !
