DEC 8: Buenos Aires

Latin passion and European Romance define the beautiful cityof Buenos Aires, a dynamic mecca known for its wide-rangingarchitectural styles, contemporary and historic arts, andculinary pleasures and parrillas (steakhouses). Dive into its besttreasures under the wing of expert A&K local guides, choosingfrom a selection of included excursions. Opt to explore the cityon a guided tour complete with a tango demonstration; spendthe day at an authentic estancia (ranch), where you pause for atraditional lunch; or discover a burgeoning art scene on aguided tour focused on Buenos Aires street art.

DEC 9: Ushuaia

Fly to the charming port town of Ushuaia, the southernmost cityin the world. On arrival, enjoy a gourmet lunch at the Arakurresort, enjoying panoramic city and mountain vistas while youdine. Time and weather permitting, take a guided walk in theCerro Alarken Nature Reserve or simply relax with a cappuccinoand enjoy scenic views ofUshuaia. This afternoon, transfer toyour ship and settle in for your first night on board. Wander thedecks to become acquainted with the ship, relax in the loungeand mingle with fellow guests in anticipation of your voyage.From your private balcony or the outside decks, take in views asyou cruise the beautiful Beagle Channel before heading out tosea.

DEC 10-11: Cruising the Drake Passage

The journey south toward Antarctica is an exciting one,furthered by singular, voyage-long access to our knowledgeableExpedition Team and enrichment experts — both on boardand on shore. Set out into the Drake Passage, a 600-mile-wideswath of water where the Southern Ocean currents aresqueezed between South America's southern tip and Antarctica'snorthernmost reaches. An important trade route in the 19th andearly 20th centuries, its stormy waters and icy conditions oncemade the journey a difficult one, though the stabilizer-equipped'Le Lyrial' handles it with ease. After lunch, join your naturalistson the deck to look for various species of whales and abundantseabirds, which join other mammals in feasting on the krill-richwaters of the Drake Passage; it's all just a taste of the wildlife youwill encounter in the days to come. Later in the evening, chatwith experts about the wildlife spotted today and learn about thenext day's itinerary.

DEC 12-16: Antarctica

As the Antarctic Peninsula and its offshore islands appear onthe horizon, a sense of excitement begins to build. Travel in thecomfort of your luxury cruiser, enjoying enriching lectures frommembers of the Expedition Team on topics ranging from birdlifeto photography and history. Your Captain and Expedition Teamcarefully plan your active, curated itinerary, which is dependenton weather, sea, ice and wildlife conditions. With that in mind,daily excursions may include exploration of the following areas:

Antarctic Sound: At the northernmost tip of the Antarcticmainland, this body of water features some of the bestsightseeing on the peninsula and a proliferation of gianticebergs. Noted for its vast numbers of bird species, the soundis home to the largest breeding colonies of Adelie penguins inAntarctica. Landings here may include Paulet, Vortex or Terrorislands. You may also make your first continental landing at sitessuch as Brown Bluff or Esperanza Station at Hope Bay.

South Shetland Islands: Antarctic research stations, remarkablehistory, amazing geological features and abundant wildlifedefine these islands off the shore of the Antarctic Peninsula.Island visits may include Penguin, Half-Moon and Deception,where you may cruise into this flooded caldera to exploregeothermal black sand beaches and abandoned whaling stations.

Danco Coast: Bordering the South Shetland Islands along theAntarctic continent, the Danco Coast is famed for its scenic,jaw-dropping waterways. From the comfort of 'Le Lyrial,'you may sail through the Gerlache Strait, Paradise Bay andphotogenic Lemaire Channel. Landings may include NekoHarbour, Cuverville Island and Wilhelmina Bay.

Each cruise day begins with an early breakfast followed by amorning excursion on swift Zodiacs (sturdy inflatable boats).Guided by expert drivers, each Zodiac excursion is accompaniedby lecturers and joined by groups of no more than 10 guests.After mornings discovering native species and striking terrain,return to 'Le Lyrial' for lunch, and time to relax and observe thewildlife-rich waters that surround you, searching for everythingfrom fin whales, humpback whales and orcas, to Antarcticand imperial shags.
