Welcome to Madrid! Capital of Spain since 1562, this lively city is the birthplace of many of the world’s greatest writers, painters and artists. Arrive and transfer to your hotel. Balance of the day is at leisure. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Drink and orientation meeting at approximately 7 pm with your Tour Manager and fellow travelers, followed by a Welcome Dinner

DAY 3, Friday - Madrid City Tour
This morning, take a sightseeing tour of Madrid. Drive along the Gran Via through the Opera District, Plaza de Colon and view the Royal Palace. Pass through Puerta del Sol Plaza and Plaza de España with its monument to the author Cervantes. The tour will end at the world-renowned Prado Museum, where you will be able to view works of art by famous artists such as El Greco, Velázquez, and Ribera. Afternoon is at leisure or, join the optional half day tour to Toledo. Take a walking tour among the most famous monuments, visiting the St. Tome Church with its El Greco masterpiece and Santa Maria la Blanca Synagogue with its beautiful Moorish architecture, the oldest synagogue in Europe still standing. DAY 4, Saturday - Segovia Sightseeing en route to Salamanca
Travel across the rugged Sierra de Guadarrama to the historic city of Segovia. View the best preserved 1st century AD Roman Aqueduct, symbol of the city, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other important monuments include the fairy-tale Alcazar with its soaring turrets, moats and magical towers and the powerful Gothic Cathedral that took almost 200 years to complete. Enjoy a walk through the Jewish Quarter, with its remains of a synagogue, palaces and museums. Then, to stunning Avila, surrounded by imposing city walls, one of Spain's best preserved bastions with its convent that pays homage to St. Theresa, founder of the Order of the Carmelites. Drive to the lively university town of Salamanca; view the 12th century Old Cathedral, the Salina and Monterrey Palaces and the historic center of the city. Arrive at the Plaza Mayor, considered Spain's most beautiful central plaza, exceptionally memorable when illuminated at dusk. Dinner together tonight in Salamanca

DAY 5, Sunday - Shrine of Fatima en route to Lisbon
Depart for Portugal, via the Serra da Estrela mountain range. Drive towards Castelo Branco before arriving at Fatima, site of the famous religious visions that occurred in 1917, when an apparition of Mary appeared to three peasant children. Here, visit the beautiful Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary built in neoclassical style, flanked by colonnades linking it with the extensive convent. Continue your journey to Lisbon, one of the oldest cities in Europe, over 2,000 years old, and capital of Portugal since 1147

DAY 6, Monday - Lisbon City Tour
In Lisbon, the tour begins with a stop at the top of Edward VII’s Park to enjoy a magnificent view over the hills of Lisbon and the River Tagus. Next, view the treasured 16th century Belem Tower and the Jeronimos Monastery, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards, visit the Cathedral of Lisbon and enjoy the elegant Liberdade Avenue. Afternoon is at leisure or, join the optional tour to quaint Sintra, the “Glorious Eden” of Lord Byron, and ancient summer retreat of the royal court, highlighted by lavish romantic castles and stunning monuments. Visit the Sintra Royal Palace, a 15th-century royal residence, containing one of the largest tile collections in Portugal. DAY 8, Wednesday - Lagos, St. Vincent, Sagres
This morning, explore the Old Town of Lagos. Visit the golden chapel of St. Anthony's Church, lined with some of the finest wood carvings in Portugal and also the first slave market in Europe. Continue to the spectacular rock formations of Ponta da Piedade. These golden sandstone cliffs, stand in stark contrast to the deep turquoise-green color of the water. The entire region is truly awe-inspiring. Head to Cape St. Vincent - the most southwesterly point of continental Europe, known as "the end of the world". Afterward, travel to beautiful Sagres with its dramatic natural scenery. Admire its stunning harbor and pass by the 15th century fortress. Afternoon is at leisure to explore the area on your own

DAY 9, Thursday - Travel to Seville
Depart Algarve this morning heading east. Reach the Spanish border and enter the region of Andalucia. Continue your drive through picturesque Andalucia to Seville with its astonishing layers of history. Leisure time upon arrival before dinner together. After, opportunity to attend an optional Flamenco Show in Seville, known as the birthplace of Flamenco!

DAY 10, Friday - Seville City Tour
Begin the day at the beautiful Plaza de España and the fragrant gardens of Maria Luisa Park before enjoying a walking tour in the quaint Barrio Santa Cruz, the former Jewish Quarter of the city with its winding cobblestone streets. Continue with a visit to the Cathedral of Seville, the largest Gothic cathedral in the world and legendary burial site of Christopher Columbus. The rest of the day is at leisure or, join the fascinating optional tour to Cordoba, founded by the Romans. Visit the astonishing Mezquita de Cordoba, one of the largest mosques in the world, transformed into a soaring cathedral in the 16th century. DAY 11, Saturday - Moorish Influenced Alhambra
The drive today takes you from Seville to Granada. Here, the highlight of your sightseeing is a visit to the 13th century Alhambra,* one of Spain’s most celebrated monuments, dramatically perched atop Assabica Hill overlooking the entire city of Granada. This imposing hilltop fortress, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the finest examples in the world of Moorish art and architecture. During the reign of the Moors, the Alhambra served as the opulent residence of the royal family. Walk along the lanes of the fragrant Generalife Gardens with its beautifully designed courtyards, waterfalls, ponds and views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Tonight, dinner together at a local restaurant*Alhambra visiting times, which may include evening hours, and which areas of the complex are accessible on the day of your visit, are determined solely at the discretion of the Alhambra. DAY 13, Monday - Valencia Sightseeing en route to Barcelona
Today, head north through fragrant groves of olives, almonds, lemons and oranges to the spectacular city of Valencia. Known as the “Garden City” of Spain, it is situated on the Orange Blossom Coast where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. There are few cities like Valencia that are able to combine remnants of its past, dating back to 138 BC, with innovative and avant-garde buildings from the new millennium. Take a tour of the city. Listen to tales about "El Cid," Spain's national hero who fought here against the Moors. Discover this treasure trove of Roman and Arabic architecture before continuing to the gates of the city, City Hall and the Gothic Cathedral. Arrive at the dramatic Arts and Science City, an outstanding scientific and cultural complex with extraordinary futuristic architecture, designed by local architect Santiago Calatrava. This morning's tour of Barcelona begins with a drive along the old Harbor to the Plaza de Catalunya, the city's bustling main square. Then, view the iconic symbol of Barcelona, La Sagrada Familia, a colossal church that is legendary and still unfinished. Ascend Montjuic Hill, home to the Olympic Complex, a number of sports facilities built for the 1992 Summer Olympics. Afternoon is at leisure or, join the optional half day tour to Montserrat.
