Don't want to compromise? Think of this trip as the best of the best. From seeing the beautiful city and beaches of Cape Town from the top of Table Mountain, to having a chance of spotting the Big 5 in two of Africa's top wildlife destinations, and experiencing the adrenaline-filled activities of one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World, Victoria Falls, this trip lets you tick off all the highlights that Southern Africa has to offer.
Day 1 - Arrive Cape Town
The adventure begins. Drop off your bags at the hotel and meet your Trip Manager and new Contiki fam in the lobby. We'll all walk across to the food market next door for your choice of dinner along with some drinks to get to know each other.
Day 2 - Cape Town
Our time in Cape Town is dedicated to sightseeing and today is no exception. We start at the very top with a cable car ride up Table Mountain, followed by a city tour of Cape Town so you can navigate your way around this coastal city. The rest of the day is at your leisure, either exploring the city yourself on foot or relaxing on one of Cape Town's beautiful beaches, before finding yourself some dinner at one of the local hotspots.
Day 3 - Cape Town
After breakfast, this is your day to take advantage of the abundance of local excursions available to Cape Town. Our favourite is a scenic drive along the cliffs of Chapman's Peak down to the tip of Africa, to see where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet at Cape Point. This is followed by a stop at Boulders Beach, home to a colony of African penguins. For the perfect afternoon activity, you can't go wrong with a classic wine tasting tour of the Cape Winelands, sampling some of Africa's best.
Day 4 - Cape Town to Kruger National Park
Today we fly to Johannesburg, the city of Gold, where we jump in vehicles for our trip up to Kruger National Park. We'll drive alongside incredible gorges and scenery as we travel to the Kruger Park to our own lodge for the night. Here the Kruger National Park awaits us. Site of the epic YouTube viral video Battle at Kruger, the Park is a sprawling wilderness of bush and terrain that houses the famous Big Five (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo) along with hundreds of species of native birds, ancient trees and meandering rivers. It's ours to explore for the next two days.
Day 5 - Kruger National Park
We're up early for our first taste of the fresh morning air that tells us we're deep in the African bush. We'll venture through to the Park gate and enter at sunrise, just the right time to see some of Africa's elusive predators finishing off their nocturnal hunts. We'll eat our packed breakfast at one of the picnic spots and discover who of us has the 'Luck of the bush' and best spotting eyes between us. Lunch will be at one of the main camps in the park and we'll relax here in the midday heat. In the afternoon we depart for another game drive, as the temperatures start cooling and the wildlife become more active, and we make our way to the park exit for sunset.
Day 6 - Kruger National Park
The game of hide and seek continues as we traverse the Park, keeping our eyes open for any wildlife that evaded us the day before. A packed breakfast will keep our stomachs settled as we keep our eyes peeled for any movement of giraffe, hyena, antelope and rhinoceros lurking deep in the bush. We depart the Park in the afternoon and drive halfway to Johannesburg.
Day 7 - Kruger National Park to Victoria Falls
We travel back to Johannesburg to catch our flight up to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. After lunch on our flight we'll check into our accommodation and drop off our bags. Today we're off for a hike along the Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders and the largest waterfall in the world. You might want to pack your raincoat, as during certain times of the year you can get drenched from the rising spray, giving the falls its local name: 'The smoke that thunders'. The evening will be for the more adventurous, with opportunities for jumping, swinging or ziplining over the mighty Zambezi river, right next to the magnificent falls.
Day 8 - Victoria Falls
Today is all about adventure. You can sign up for rafting down the Zambezi, one of the world's best white water rapids. Take a scenic helicopter flight over the spectacular falls and neighbouring wildlife reserve, seeing some of Africa's famous animals from above for a truly unforgettable experience. Or for the less adventurous, try your hand at Africa's own kind of escape room - the Tribal Trap. The rest of the day is yours to relax, or head out to join a local Boma buffet dinner, complete with traditional dancers and drumming for something a bit different.
Day 9 - Victoria Falls to Chobe
We leave the spray of the Falls behind us as we travel across the border to the prolific wildlife-rich haven that is Botswana. We enjoy lunch and leisure time at our lodge before we take our overnight bags into open Safari vehicles with our own personal guides, and drive to the famous Chobe National Park. Known for having the largest density of elephants, driving along the Chobe River front is a non-stop action adventure with wildlife coming and going, quenching their thirst in the hot African sun. Then to top this off, this is the night where you get to truly experience the wilderness of Africa: by a night out in the middle of the African bush. We have a private Contiki site exclusively set up just for you with your own guides, cooks and a bonfire set under the African stars. After a deliciously prepared meal, lying in your tent that night you will fall asleep to the sounds of Africa: a jackal calling in the distance, the loud whoop of a hyena, and perhaps the roar of lions seeking each other out after their daytime slumber.
Day 10 - Chobe
This morning we'll wake up to watch the sunrise over the African bush with a light breakfast, before departing on a morning game drive to hopefully see some of the wildlife we may have heard the night before. We'll arrive late morning to check into our new lodge and spend the rest of the day relaxing around the pool and swapping stories from the night before. Our last evening together will end off with a sunset cruise on the Chobe river. Surrounded by pods of hippos, with crocs basking on the banks and all forms of African animals coming down to drink, this is truly one African sunset you'll never forget.
Day 11 - Depart Chobe
It's time for our last breakfast together this morning before you're dropped off at Kasane Airport or make the journey back to Victoria Falls. Time to say goodbye to your group and swap numbers so you can stay in touch until the next amazing adventure.
Please Note: This tour is only applicable for 18 to 35 year olds.
