Tour Itinerary

Discover two vibrant Mediterranean countries on one exciting vacation. Begin in Rome with two overnights and guided sightseeing that visits the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Next, follow the coastline of the Tyrrhenian Sea to marvel at Pisa’s Leaning Tower. Then spend two nights in Tuscany with Florence, “Cradle of the Renaissance,” and join the included walking tour of the historical center. In Verona, see Juliet’s famous balcony; in Venice, enjoy a canal boat ride to St. Mark’s Square and marvel at the elaborate architecture. In Ancona, board an overnight ferry to Greece. Visit Olympia and the impressive Mycenae archaeological site, and see the Corinth Canal. Conclude your journey with a stay in Athens, where the Acropolis is a highlight of the included sightseeing tour.

Day 1: Arrive in Rome, Italy.
Check into your hotel. The rest of the day is free for you to explore Italy’s ancient capital. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers.

Day 2: Rome.
Included sightseeing with a Local Guide starts in St. Peter’s Square, followed by a visit to the Roman Forum and the mighty Colosseum. (B)

Day 3: Rome–Pisa–Florence Area.
Vistas of undulating hills, austere rows of cypress trees, terraced vineyards, olive groves, and rural villages form the backdrop of your journey through beautiful Tuscany. Take a break in Pisa to see the Square of Miracles and the amazing Leaning Tower, then on to the Florence area. End the day by joining the optional Tuscan dinner in a typical restaurant. (B)

Day 4: Florence.
This Renaissance gem and city of the Medicis will keep you enthralled the entire day. Traffic is banned in part of the historic center so visitors can wander at leisure and admire the city’s timeless beauty in relative peace and quiet. Don’t miss out on the included walking tour with a Local Guide, which features most of the city highlights. You will see Piazza Santa Croce; beautiful Piazza Signoria; Palazzo Vecchio and its courtyard; Loggia dei Lanzi; and, to top it all, Piazza del Duomo and its cathedral with the Giotto Campanile, and the magnificent East Door of the Baptistry, known as the “Gate of Paradise.” (B,D)

Day 5: Florence Area–Verona–Venice Area.
An interesting journey today northwards for a first stop in enchanting Verona to see the legendary balcony from Romeo and Juliet. Just a few more miles eastwards to Venice. (B)

Day 6: Venice.
Venice is more like a marvelous film set than a real live city, with its criss-crossing canals, gondolas and water buses, arched bridges, palaces, and quiet little piazzas. The included orientation starts with a boat ride and is followed by time at leisure and a chance to watch Venetian glassblowers fashion their delicate objects as they did centuries ago. Don’t miss out on the optional gondola trip, gliding along the picturesque canals with a local troubadour to serenade you. (B,D)

Day 7: Venice Area–Ravenna–Ancona (Embarkation)–Overnight Ferry Crossing To Patras, Greece.
Start the day by journeying across the flatlands of the Po Delta to medieval Ravenna. Next, reach Ancona on the shores of the Adriatic. This afternoon, embark on the ferry for the crossing to Patras. (B)

Day 8: Patras (Disembarkation)–Olympia.
Plenty of time to enjoy all the ship’s facilities. Disembark this afternoon in Patras. Drive south into the Peloponnese for an overnight in Olympia. (B,D)

Day 9: Olympia–Tolon.
Make the most of this morning by taking the optional tour of the sights of ancient Olympia, including the ruins of the Temple of Zeus. In the afternoon, enjoy the rugged scenery of the Peloponnese on the way via Tripolis to Tolon. (B,D)

Day 10: Tolon–Mycenae–Athens.
Morning visit with a Local Guide to the impressive ruins of Mycenae. Later, stop to view the Corinth Canal, which was built between 1881 and 1893. Overnight in Athens. (B)

Day 11: Athens.
Join the included sightseeing tour of Athens, featuring the highlights of the ancient capital and a visit to the Acropolis. Explore the shops and museums or take a trip to the coast to swim. In the evening, enjoy the lively atmosphere of the tavernas and nightclubs in the old Plaka district with its narrow streets and sound of bouzouki music, or join an optional Greek dinner. (B)

Day 12: Athens.
Your vacation ends with breakfast this morning. (B)

This Spain, Portugal, Morocco tour is a terrific value. Our tour guide is an impressive historian, complete professional, and beautifully organized. He and the driver made our tour a brilliant journey.

The day to day itinerary on the Cosmos Alpine Adventure Tour was great. There was a good balance of activity with plenty to do at a reasonable pace. The scenery was outstanding, picture-postcard quality every day all day long.

A memorable and educational cultural experience on this Cuba trip.

I believe the hotels were four star, but for the reduced cost, we got what we paid for. The hotels located away from the major cities were the very best in our estimation. Our tour guide was Serbian, and was very helpful and accommodating, but I believe a Scandinavian tour guide in Scandinavia could have given us a better insight into the locale. We had to take an unexpected detour from the itinerary route due to a change in one of the ferry's schedules, but our guide handled it very well, and personally, I think the detour was better than the planned route. The coach and driver were excellent. It seemed like a lot of driving from one place to another, but perhaps that is simply our age catching up to us. Our airline flights worked out fine. Their was one glitch in having a one hour delay in leaving Cleveland, but with a five hour layover in Toronto, it all worked out just fine. All in all, Scandinavia was a very good experience. My wife, who does not like to travel, even liked it.

This tour was the best tour we have ever had. The itinerary arrangement was superb was conducted in a very professional way. We are very pleased with the Cosmos Tour Director and the Cosmos Driver. They were very good and very helpful. Anybody who would like to visit Switzerland we would like to suggest this tour instead of the shorter other Switzerland tour. Overall during this trip we were able to visit 4 mountain peaks by train & cable car combined.

I've always enjoyed all the tours I've taken with Globus and Cosmos.

By Lorraine P on Aug 13, 2016

Outstanding adventure. Was nice to have them make all travel arrangements and find fun things for me to see and do. I was getting rather accustomed to waking up and being fed breakfast before getting on the nice and comfortable bus for our tours. Had free explore too. Could have saved money and not do tour group but it would have taken me at least a week to research how and where to go and where to stay.

By Nancy W on Jul 30, 2016

Affordable Tours and Cosmos were excellent. The trip was exactly as advertised and better.

By Rita S on Jul 02, 2016

Hotels in Austria and Switzerland did not have air conditioning. Hotel in Venice was the lowest quality. Dinner in Venice was disappointing...nothing Italain except noodles and some tomatoe sauce. Dijon dinner was horrible...bugs and spiders in the restaurant...had to move away from our table location. Dessert tasted like freezer burn. I had to get dinner at another place.

I have taken so many Cosmos tours and each time they seem to improve in accommodations. I love the room share option you have which is so good for me since I often travel alone. Single supplement costs can be outrageous at times depending on the country.

My experience on The Best of Greece was amazing. The staff of Cosmos was absolutely wonderful. My husband and I will be planning our third trip with Cosmo for next year 2017.

By Laura D on Jun 12, 2016

Encourage Cosmos travellers to book many of the optional excursions to get the most from this tour. Suggest to Cosmos that Pisa be omitted and an extra day in Florence be added instead. Otherwise the tour director and driver were exceptional.
