Itinerary

Tour Itinerary

This vacation is ideal for first-time visitors to the Emerald Isle who have limited time. Begin in Dublin with an overnight and an orientation drive that includes O’Connell Street, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and Trinity College. Heading west, stop in Kildare at the Irish National Stud, in St. Patrick’s Cashel, and in Tipperary, made famous in the wartime marching song. On to Limerick for an orientation drive, then stop in Ennis for two nights. From here, an included excursion showcases stunning views from the Cliffs of Moher. Also enjoy Irish hospitality at Rathbaun Farm, where you’ll see a farmer shear a sheep and use a sheep dog to maneuver his flock. Enjoy a traditional tea in the 150-year-old thatched farmhouse. Next, ferry across the Shannon estuary and travel around the famed Ring of Kerry. Spend the night in Killarney and stop in Blarney, famous for its magical Kissing Stone. In Waterford, visit the House of Waterford Crystal, and enjoy an Irish coffee demonstration, see Ireland’s oldest handweaving mill at Avoca, cross through the Wicklow Mountains, and take a guided tour of St. Kevin’s 6th-century Centre of Irish Christianity in Glendalough. Return to Dublin for the conclusion of your Irish journey.

Day 1: Arrive in Dublin, Ireland.
Céad míle fáilte! A hundred-thousand welcomes! Check into your hotel. At 3 pm, meet your Tour Director and traveling companions for an afternoon orientation drive through statue-lined O’Connell Street, elegant Georgian squares, and past St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Oscar Wilde’s Trinity College. Tonight, enjoy a welcome dinner with wine at your hotel. (D)

Day 2: Dublin–Kildare–Cashel–Limerick–Ennis.
Horse-racing country this morning. Drive across the Curragh to visit the IRISH NATIONAL STUD at Kildare, whose fine thoroughbreds command respect on the racecourses of the world. Lots more to see: the Rock of Cashel, where St. Patrick preached; Tipperary, made famous in a wartime marching song; and Limerick, where an orientation drive acquaints you with St. Mary’s Cathedral, King John’s Castle, and the stone where the Treaty of Limerick was signed in 1691. Tonight’s suggestion for a very special night out: attend an optional banquet at Bunratty Castle. (B)

Day 3: Ennis. West Coast Excursion.
Your day excursion along Ireland’s spectacular Atlantic coastline begins with a drive to the 668-foot CLIFFS OF MOHER, where you savor the breathtaking panorama of the Clare coast. A scenic route across the limestone plateau of The Burren takes you to Galway, a popular seaside destination and a buzzing cosmopolitan center with colorful shops and a busy café and bar culture. This afternoon, a special treat: at RATHBAUN FARM, watch the farmer shear a sheep and maneuver a flock with the help of a sheep dog. Then, enjoy
a [LF] TRADITIONAL TEA in the 150-year-old thatched farmhouse. (B)

Day 4: Ennis–Ring of Kerry–Killarney.
After a short drive via Clonderlaw Bay to Killimer, cross the Shannon estuary by FERRY. Continue on to Killorglin on Dingle Bay to join the spectacular RING OF KERRY for a 100-mile panoramic drive around the island’s southwestern tip. Take your photos of the Lakes of Killarney from Ladies View, then spend the night in the popular resort of Killarney. (B,D)

Day 5: Killarney–Blarney–Waterford.
Across the Kerry Mountains and through County Cork to Blarney, renowned for its magical Kissing Stone. Time for lunch, to walk up to the castle, and to shop for traditional Irish handicrafts. In the afternoon, proceed via Cork to Waterford, a stronghold founded by the Danish Vikings, and look forward to a guided tour of the HOUSE OF WATERFORD CRYSTAL. After dinner this evening, enjoy an [LF] IRISH COFFEE DEMONSTRATION. (B,D)

Day 6: Waterford–Avoca–Glendalough–Dublin.
An exciting agenda today: Enniscorthy, site of the final battle of the Great Rebellion of 1798; Ireland’s oldest HANDWEAVING MILL at Avoca, where you watch the WEAVERS at work; the Wicklow Mountains; and GLENDALOUGH, the early Christian monastic site founded by St. Kevin in the 6th century. See the engaging audiovisual Ireland of the Monasteries, then let your Local Guide show you the remains of this ecclesiastical settlement. Back in Dublin tonight, a fitting farewell to Ireland would be an optional cabaret evening with dinner, followed by dance, song, and laughter. (B)

Day 7: Dublin.
Your vacation ends with breakfast this morning. (B)

Globus and Affordable Tours delivered a wonderful trip for my husband and me!! I can't say enough. Exceeded my expectations!!

By Gloria D on Sep 06, 2015

For our first oversea tour it was excellent, description was right on, our accommodation were as expected in fact they exceeded our expectations. Everything included in package was of great value and the extras, mostly evening activities were reasonable and very enjoyable. Our tour director was excellent, knowledgeable, very personable and handled any difficulties with easy and grace. Our driver was very skilled and put all at ease. He assisted everyone in tour group and even helped other drivers when they went a little of course. All in all a great experience that incourages us to do it again. The tour was Globus run and will get our vote any time.

By Mary K on Sep 06, 2015

Very nice birthday trip. An experience I'll never forget.

By Kathryn C on May 28, 2015

Second trip with Globus and another outstanding travel experience. The tour guide was the best.

By Carol G on Jun 12, 2014

Our tour guide was great! He, and the driver went above and beyond for our group. They were there to address our every need... we were amazed by the driver's skills.... They both added so many interesting bits of information about the history of places we traveled through. It was our first trip to Ireland, and what an amazing collection of memories we brought home with us! We are already thinking about our next tour with Globus, and Affordable Tours.

By Maria D on Sep 19, 2013

Everything went according to plan. The eight day tour was very filled and met my expectations. Globus is a very reliable tour company and takes good care of their travelers. Globus listened to our concerns and seems to be willing to meet our needs and interests. The booking was superb and I could not feel more confident in the reservations.

By Pamela P on Aug 04, 2013

Rooms were a bit warm...need an overhead fan at minimum. Clarion Hotel did not inform the tour guide that we were already checked in...as such we missed the orientation drive of Dublin (partially our fault as we were 10 min late).

By Theresa G on Jul 14, 2013

My Booking Agent was great and fantastic! He was quick in responding and very caring. Thank you!!!! We had a wonderful trip.

By Loretta M on May 16, 2013

Our agent did an outstanding job for us.... made this my husband's best birthday celebration yet (and that's a quote from him). Where do I start: The Rooms were incredible and all were 1st class, unlike the normal european hotels. One stands out the most and it was the GRANVILLE HOTEL. Talk about stepping back into the past.... it was breathtaking. Our tour guide and our driver were the perfect hosts....not only were they knowledgable, they were extremely easy and relaxing to deal with. I can't say enough about this trip and you can be sure that I\'ll spread the word to all my \'traveling buddies\' here in the desert. Thanks for one of the best vacations ever!

By Dorothy N on Mar 17, 2013

Accomodations were way beyond expectations! Dinners were first class at the hotels. Would most certainly recommend this tour company. Personal woes were that I missed my flight thus missing 2 days, camera broke, curling iron died, and mistakenly left ATM card at home...

By Denis T on Sep 20, 2012

the tour director and the driver from Globus were the best I have met. They did a terrific job.

By Maryanne N on Sep 02, 2012

We just got back today from Ireland. We had a great trip. All things went as planned. We learned a lot and had a lot of fun. Thanks for your help in planning and booking the adventure. (The weather was perfect too!)

By Melba F on May 03, 2012

Guides, accomodations, tour stops were better than we expected. Having a former teacher as your guide offered deeper knowledge of the area. Drivers on those narrow roads were stupendous! Having a view over all the walls and hedges along the roads was so much better than from a lower vehichle. Check in to the hotels was much snoother than we have ever experienced. Pre trip help was great.

By Brian M on Mar 27, 2011

The perfect tour in all aspects from start to finish!

By Frances M on Jul 22, 2010

Everything about the experience was terrific. Our tour guide with Globus was outstanding! I would definitely book another trip with Affordable Tours.
